Looking for a gun I can hunt dove and duck with. In YOUR opinion, budget of $1500-ish or less what gun would you buy?

Beretta 400 or Browning Maxus..... Benelli is a good gun until they have problem then good luck getting CS.

I know you want a single dual purpose gun, I would get an older Ithaca 37 in 20 gauge for dove and a Browning BPS in 12 gauge for ducks.

I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

Beretta A300 Outlander... with $1500, you can get two of them. One with walnut stock, and the other synthetic with camo.

Beretta 391 you can pick em up reasonable and use the extra cash to buy shells! Or spend the coin and get an a400. Shot the Versamax a few times last season and never had a hickup with it either. SBE cranks em out also, I don't have one but most of my hunting buddies do and they never miss a lick. Find the one you can get the best fit with and feels the best to you and go with it. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with any of the high end offerings now a days. They all seem to function surprisingly well with everything from dove to duck loads and even turkey n goose loads in some of em.

Stoeger 3000 or the 3500 if you need to shoot 3.5" same gun as the benelli SBE1the parts are actually interchangeable made by the same company. Only inertia driven shotgun for the money.

Beretta Outlander.
Sure all the other guns are nice but $550 for a semi-auto Beretta seems like a no brainer. Then use the $900-1000 you saved for another gun.

My $200 Mossberg pump has been a tank! I take dove and duck with it, and beat the snot out of it. I've shot the high end shotguns, and I can't tell the difference. I hit more with my Mossberg. I know I'll get flack for that statement! But I'm the opposite when it comes for rifles. So, yes, I'm sure there is a difference in a high end shotgun vs a $200 Mossberg pump.

I've knocked quite a few down with my Mossberg 835. However it has been retired as I'm now driving what I feel to be the Cadillac of shotguns, a Browning Maxus.

I love my old 870. You give Tom Knap (God rest is soul) a piece of junk shotgun and he is still gonna outshoot most anyone with the best quality money can buy. Its not the arrow its the indian, some folks just don't believe it. I can perfectly understand wanting an auto or wanting a nice fancy gun, but for me a shotgun is a drag it through the brush lean it on a barbed wire fence and drop it in the mud and muck kinda gun. I want simple reliable and durable and that's about it.
It's hell eatin em live

Another newb question. I see some shotguns have a camo look to them. when it comes to resale, does that hurt the value at all? (ie- less desirable) Do they sell many of the camo guns or not? Looks pretty cool, but not sure if its best to stay with the traditional look.

I was thinking the same. SBE II all day every day X3. Beretta Outlander/390 is great. Super Vinci and A400 Xplor are great, but i think like $100-$200 over ur budget.
