Once a year I buy the minimum amount of minutes on the OnStar phone in the truck. I think it's similar to those old 5-watt booster systems they used to sell. 'Still may not get any service, but it might help a little. You might try that, if you have a vehicle with that type of service in it. It helps in west Texas, but mountains are few and far between out there.

My mom's 92 with dementia in assisted living, so I'll be running into town a couple of times to at least check in with the wife if the truck phone doesn't work.

As far as phone, I get a signal in surprising areas, sometimes 10' makes all the difference. I know there is a tower around Delores for sure. May depend on what network to, I have had Verizon for years.

As far as Sat phone, had it in my truck when I lived up there, worked anywhere I was. Just last week the charged me $40 for service I never asked for though, so I wont use Onstar ever again and really never needed it.

OnStar isn't a sat phone, just a boosted cell signal. I was wrong, it's 3 watts. OnStar can be dastardly about the money. If they hack you off, don't try Sirius/XM. They redefine "relentless".

Not a true "sat phone", but satellite is used. That tech was brought in by one of the founding partners Hughes e corp. But the service has seen many upgrades since it started, CDMA now ?

Agree 1 million% on XM, worst customer service and horrific, relentless marketing.

Bottom line, I doubt you have to go a mile to get cell service, but not sure how "deep" Sneaky plans on taking y'all. Cell service has got much better up there.

On a vacation in New Mexico, a buddy of mine was able to use his OnStar when nobody else had signal.

But I think there will be enough people around if something goes wrong. Hiking in the woods is still safer than my commute in Dallas traffic.
