Sure is. I've been using Sierra bullets for years but have used Hornady Interlocks in my .30-06's since I started hand loading. They just work too well to switch. I like Sierra ProHunters in the .270's but I started with the Hornady bullets in them a few years ago. Accuracy and performance wise, they just seem to do everything well within 300 yards (I very seldom shoot any farther.)

Nav you really need to buy a .223 or a .22-250 so shoot varmints with and a .22 to take care of your turtle issue.

shooting a skunk with a .270 is like shooting a bobwhite with a 10 gauge

The first 14 deer of my life were taken with my dad's Tikka 270 with 130 grn Remington Core Lokt. 14 shots and 14 kills and not one animal ever took a single step. My dad has probably killed 20 plus with identical results. The biggest animal I have taken with it was a hog that weighed 360 lbs. Same results.

On the flip side, I bought a 300 Win Mag about 10 years ago (got a heck of a deal on it)and now I am in search of ammo for it. I have killed probably 10 animals with it but every single one has ran from 15 yards to 125 yards after shot. The Core Lokts do not work in this gun.

There is no magic bullet/caliber combo that makes them die on the spot. I have shot several deer with a 270 win and 130 grain corelocks. The only ones that didn't run were shot in the neck/head. Almost all the body shots ran. Most run/no run is shot placement, hit the shoulder or central nervous system and they drop, stick them through the heart lungs and they might drop, but more often than not will run a short ways.

Shot placement is the key.

Placement trumps power.

Pick the most accurate and go with that.

Randy, the last 4 300WMg's I've had just would NOT shoot factory corelokt's any better than a 12g and double ought Buck shot... A Savage 116, a Tikka 695, a Browning ABolt & a 90's era Winchester Classic M70...and all 4 of them were bughole shooters in cheap WallyWorld Fed Blue Box & WW 180'ers.

That same round is all I shoot in my .270. It is a great round and works effectively. One shot deer down.

I bought a box of core lokts to try out. That federal premium is what I sighted in with Ilm interested in seeing differences. Haven't made it to range yet.

Core-Lokt 130 grain. End of story. Deadliest mushroom in the woods and not even expensive.

Different rifles prefer different loads. Use the one that's most accurate in your rifle.

In your opening post you mentioned you were new to hunting. Might just need some good old time practice. Also, when you state "way off the mark", many rifles do not shoot to the same POI with different ammo. welcome
