What does the red button do? Somebody had to ask. If you are talking about the red light at the upper left of the picture is just that. A red light. There is a white light and a red light. Use it at night if you have a dark cockpit. All the orange lights on the Flight Engineers panel are warning lights.

So "Orange" is a bad thing, at least on that panel. I can see where color blindness would pose a problem

There is one small red light kinda left center on the panel. That is like the Oh Sh*t light. Loss of all generators and everything goes off. That is the one they like to light up in the simulator.

Don, I think is is a fascinating career, (the part being on flight). I had a neighbor that was a domestic pilot for AA in the 90's, came str8 out of the Marine corps flying jets, to commercial. Made a heck of a living and had enough seniority, he could pick flights he wanted, knowing the pay up front His wife was an International senior stewardess and it blew my mind to find out how much she made! They where doing quite well.

They where doing quite well. It was an amazing job. The plane is owned by a family on the west coast. I got to see and go to places I never dreamed of. Once even did an around the world trip. And they were very good people to work for.
