For example Canada has 3.4 million square miles of public land. That is almost equal in area to the entire US including Texas and Alaska. The public land in Canada is essentially fence free other than the odd mine here and there. I suspect public land in Alaska, Montana, Wyoming etc. is similar.

USA is 3.79 million square miles (9.83 million km2) in total area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_dependencies_by_area

That's why I said almost. 3.4/3.79 is close to 90%.

I find the 3.4 million squares miles a bit high from what I seen in Alberta. A lot of that province was private land where I was around Calagary. Saskatchewan seems to have a lot of private land owners also. The rest of the provinces must not have any private land ownership.

Think of it this way:

Canada is 3.86 million square miles compared to US area of 3.79 million (essentially the same size). Canada only has 1/10 the population of the US. If private ownership rates are about the same in both countries than we have 90% of Canada left over as public land. This is actually very close to what the stats say. Canada is 11% private land and 89% public.

Also your observation about Alberta has merit as it is 40% private and 60% public. It does not greatly affect the national average because it is only 6 out of 13 in size within the country and all the larger jurisdictions have public land areas exceeding the national average of 89%.

They're delusional.

Who's delusional? From where I hunted just east of the Mississippi source, it's 120 miles to the Canadian border and no major physical barriers, explain how that's fenced.

It matters not how FAR it is to the barrier. There IS a barrier.

Likewise, you don't have to know. It's all good.

.

i know Jack & he ain't no donkey rofl had ta look up what a Mouflon is, beautiful animals. so if your fence got knocked down, the Moulton would stay on your side. have helped many neighbors out when their cattle or horses got out. fence is what keeps em from roaming scratch don't get me wrong, got nothing against high fences. as some one mentioned earlier on form, may be different thread. only few qualify for hunting high fence, i know my limitations, & don't qualify, best wishes flag

Exactly, I hunt LF and HF. An animal on a HF can get really smart.

I can tell you've never set foot on a high fence ranch by this comment

So the 15 sections of ground we hunt in SW KS has a barrier because somewhere there is a fence? You pen hunters are grabbing at straws.

I like the way you think. Back in my much younger days I hunted just about any fence including the long pasture between the fences.

To each thier own I guess. I think they are ugly as heck and most of our neighbors had them when I was younger and there wasnt anything "wild" about them.

If they weren't wild then they weren't Mouflon.

i try ta keep an open mind. haven't looked it up in hunting laws, english isn't best, so going out on a limb, HF is as legal as LF. I've been told bye expert credit advisers. leasing was waste of money, come out ta less than a $ a day. it had hogs, could hunt 24-7-365, now gotta scrape just ta get the $48.00 WMA permit. bang Bush said don't trust them Demicrates. rofl do ta Government shut down rofl it don't pay ta complain back were ever I can afford times is tough flag

..this is why we need post restrictions bc none will ever make it to maturity if ppl are constantly hunting the new ones.
