The first hog hunt I ever went on was a mesh fence hunt where cowboys on horseback drove pigs past where we were told to stand and shoot. That was down around Victoria. I was shocked. That wasn't hunting in any shape or form. I feel pretty much the same way about high fenced hunting ranches. Just feels wrong to me. Most, but not all, of my place is low fenced, but that's to keep the neighbors cows out of my pastures.

The most confusing thing to me is the 10 so far who are on the Texas Hunting Forum yet say "I don't hunt."

Nothing against HF or people that hunt HF ranches. Just not for me. I suppose if it was a very large place I'd give it a try, but like someone else said, I'd want it to be a hunt, not a shoot. For the record, I've never shot a deer standing at a feeder, not saying I havent used them, but all my stand/blind locations were scouted and on travel lanes. So do you believe this makes you better in some way than a hunter who does?

Never hunted in a high fence place. If I were invited, I would. Harvesting a 180 buck from a high fence wouldn't seem as special as a low fence. But I wouldn't complain.
Any time I'm invited to help rid this state of ferel hogs I will be happy to go. I don't care what kind of fences are nearby. X2 I hope to hunt a Axis, always wanted one!, and in order to do that most likely will do so on a HF ranch. I have never hunted HF for deer and I have to confess it hits me wrong but if it's REAL hunting and not just canned hunting then I'd do it if invited. I'd love to check out a HF operation with my camera in hand of course if ever invited! :-) Wow...finding that I actually can change as I get older.

Lmaatwo They're delusional. In the context of hunting within the bounds of Texas maybe the "no-fence" numbers should be lower. From what I have seen there a fair number of people on the forum that hunt in locales other than Texas. Perhaps this is skewing the #'s. For example Canada has 3.4 million square miles of public land. That is almost equal in area to the entire US including Texas and Alaska. The public land in Canada is essentially fence free other than the odd mine here and there. I suspect public land in Alaska, Montana, Wyoming etc. is similar.

Now that I have a feeder behind the house, I no longer hunt. Just sit on the back porch with my coffee and if something comes along that I'm interested in, I shoot.

I find the 3.4 million squares miles a bit high from what I seen in Alberta. A lot of that province was private land where I was around Calagary. Saskatchewan seems to have a lot of private land owners also. The rest of the provinces must not have any private land ownership.

I guess I don't understand why "no-fence" hunters in Texas are delusional. No-fence doesn't mean that it isn't still private property. In the context of white-tail hunting, even a couple of old rusty strands of barbed wire hardly count as fenced.

The low/no fence argument is silly. It makes no difference. You're arguing about nothing.

Since I'm not hunting for a fence, I say that I hunt no fence. Found a free ranging turkey with poults today when checking my cameras. Never seen, heard or considered them even being around that place. Whoever had them fenced in should have done a better job of keeping them.
