LOL...yeah I laughed when I read that one. Sounds like you have something to prove...no need to prove it to me I don't really care.

Seriously though the issue of naming lakes and the issue of bashing people that do are seperate. I don't think a newbie should be bashed but they should be set straight.

I've helped a lot of people including taking guys out to lunch to talk specifics and taken many newbies to my spots. If there is a actual relationship I have no problem sharing but I'm not going to do it on a public forum. PMs, emails, phones, and face to face meeting work best for public spot info exchanges.

I won't name my lake but if most of you read my post you could probably figure it out. It gets a ton of pressure and generally if you do a lot of shooting one weekend if you show back up the next weekend you will have company maybe lots of it. I have scouted out some spots that don't see a lot of pressure and hunted one of them last weekend. We saw a lot of ducks and a few geese, but I won't be surprised at all if I have hunters either beat me to it Saturday morning or set up next to me. From listening to the shooting this year up until I hunted this spot no one else had touched it. We actually found it deer hunting. It's public hunting , its just the nature of the beast.

I agree with CNT as long as your not giving out specific locations, its still going to take a lot of scouting, I mean come on TPWD outs out a weekly report that names several lakes in a region. So if the lake you hunt is on that list then do you notice in increase in other hunters after it has been mentioned on line. It amazes me how much diffrent hunting is here than out west were I grew up, out there people where always willing to share a tip or help you out, but here it seems like people wants to run everyone off except a die hard few. The number of hunters is shrinking nation wide and as a group we should be doing more to promote the sport so that we don't have our right to hunt restriced or taken away. In my opinon promoting the sport dosen't include harrasing people for asking questions, this scares people away from the forum and leaves a bad taste in their mouth. I know how frustrating it is to be all set up and have someone who is obviosly much less experianced show up and ruin things for you 10 minutes before legal light but that's just part of hunting public land.

This use to be out west. Till all the towns spread all over. New people moved in and brought there big city ways here with there push and shove and I dont care about my neighbor mentality. He is not saying tell specific spots or even tell the name of a lake he is just saying stop dogging on some one who names a lake. And stop being a jerk to some one trying to get into the sport!!!! Don't hate em help em.. Someone had to help you..

I love these lake naming debates. Kinda like most of my sport tho, I'm more of a spectator these days.

I'm not. I find it fun. Like fishing for Stripers. They hit hard and run like a freight train when hooked. But then it is a symbiotic relationship, lake namers and anti lake namers alike. Like now, I am actually the Striper I suppose.

Hey I thought this was supposed to run it's course before season when everyone is frustrated because there is no hunting.

Let's see,
The three lakes I hunt the most of.

Lewisville since the early 80s.

Ray Roberts since before it opened. I was the lone hunter representative at the ribbon cutting.

Texoma
Oh grew up from a little kid at a lake house and boat house on this one.

Ok that said, clearly this is not my first rodeo. I have enough confidence in my scouting and hunting that saying those three lake names comprised of somewhere between 100,000 and 200,000 acres of actual hunting area will not effect me or my hunt tomorrow, next week, or next year.

Now I do often use abbreviations or code in respect to others. For example I hunted Granger and Somerville WMAs the other day. I may have stated about hunting at the "Grange" or "some villa". Not that I need to. If you duck hunt and live within 3 hours of those two, you know what they are. If you don't, your not going to drive over three hours to hunt on any regular basis.

And I have been this way since Al Gore invented the Internet. You know what, to the best of my knowledge I have never had a hunt ruined from doing so. Never seen droves of hunters find me and show up at my spot the next day after a post.

But what I have experienced. Mentioning where I hunt to a game warden on the phone and run into a hunter at that spot who was told where to hunt by a game warden sometime after. I have had a game warden tell me where someone I know is hunting, yet him not knowing that I know the person. I have taken people hunting and had them show up with others at that spot the next day. I have take people hunting and had them hunt that same spot without me on several occasions the following year. I have hunted with people on this forum who have told me where they hunted as a guest of another forum member on more than one occassion.

Do I have a problem with any of the above. No. I have hunt locations I share with anyone, some with only a few, some with a single person I trust and share the spot with, some I don't share with anyone. I have many more hunt locations than I could possibly hunt in any given year and always finding more.

Those that prefer sharing detailed information with one or two via pm or instructing persons to call a game warden or a biologist as a response when someone posts a simple lake name. Or even taking a new hunter out to your "spot" and entrusting them with it. You are your own worst enemy IMHO. There is a domino effect that does not come from reading the name of a lake on a forum. Not saying all that is a bad practice, just something for those who freaked out (because they just now saw the word lewisville, ray roberts, texoma, granger, or somerville) to think about.

John

I'm someone who is of the opinion that naming lakes hurts those that hunt them. I'm not saying I'm a dick about it...in fact go ahead and find posts that where I am being a dick...you won't find one.

I've helped lots of people with all sorts of issues and those who ask about lakes I'll tell them in a nice way why people don't like the lakes they hunt.

It is an unwritten rule and most know it even if they don't agree with it. You know it as well don't you? By saying I'm setting people straight I'm really just saying I'm going to tell them how many people view the issue. Fair enough?

FYI, marc don't bite off more than you can chew, I happen to know Corey (CNTKILLLIKEME ) very well and he is a great guy and a very capable duck hunter, better than most. He could also squish you with minimal effort. As for all this lake naming B.S. If I spend MY time and money to "SCOUT" as you guys call it, and want to tell the whole damn world what I found and where I found it, I will be damned if anyone is going to tell me I can't!

As for people being insucure SETH are you such a putz duck hunter that a little comp. is going to ruin your day!
Get off your Shetland ponys and take a little higher road, for a man with such religion you might want to think about personal slander WWJD?

For the rest of the people on the waterfowl forum that have rude and inconsiderate thing to say, look @ yourselves before you so eagerly jump on another.

i think the fact of the matter is this

part of the sport of duckhunting is hangin in with the buddies, and meeting new buddies. im not somebody that agres with lake naming, ive seen first hand what it can do to your area, i am however (like 99% of duck hunters) somebody likes to help somebody out. i went through my pm's today and its loaded with meeting up with invites to take new guys out to my spots. it is not a hard thing to pm somebody you know and ask how an area is or pm a buddy or 2 or 4 and say man we killed these ducks here today, lets go!

fishdog-- while the number of hunters might be decreasin ( i dont know if thats a fact or not) i can guarantee its not decreasing like the amount of land to hunt.

to the newbies --- theres plenty of guys who are willing to help, if you read the forum you can figure out the ones who are willing, my suggestion is pm'ing them and asking for help, they will reach out. I dont think its the intention of most people on here to bash anybody about spot. Theres so many people out there that want everybody to not mind when they name a lake and to be understanding, i dont see any understanding coming from those who do it for the guys that get a little frustrated for it happening.

WTF? I never said he wasnt a great guy or a capable duck hunter. He's the one who spouted off all his own duckhunting badassedness. And squishing me with minimal effort...what are we in the sixth grade?
