Sure they do? but they look different than a Gophers mound. Not all moles will mound though, usually if they have dug deep.

My yard is covered in mole tunnels, so are my neighbors, I have yet to see any kind of hill or mound. Gophers will definitely make a hill / mound.

Yeah, moles aren't as frequent since they eat underground, but when they go deep, build nest, they have to push the dirt out. Their mounds are more symmetrical, straight up and dont have a "plug", where a gopher mound is angled (the exit) and their mounds are not as round, you can also see the "plug" they use after they go above ground to feed.

I've caught both here and at times using the same travel way. Sometimes moles will nest under brush or in wooded areas and you wont notice the mounds as much.

I am eat up with Gophers. Before we got the place, probably 3 years ago, my FIL poisoned them...worked for about two years...now that we've built the house...they're back and they've destroyed our yard and have got the pasture pretty good. I tried the smoke bomb things that were mentioned earlier...no luck. No luck with the traps either. About ready to go nuclear on the little SOBs

I had a hay field once that they tore up pretty good, an older neighbor caught 10 or so using a makabee (sp) style trap. Surprising how much damage one gopher can do.

Best way I have found to catch them with a trap. I unplug the hole on the mound, set the trap in and leave the hole nearly open, may put a bit of grass over it. This wont work for moles usually, but it seems the gophers do not like an open hole and will promptly come back to plug it. This is how the old fella showed me.

Here is how I take care of the little buggers: Open up two or more holes as far apart from each other as possible. I then take a piece of 1 1/2" metal flex conduit and run one end down one of the holes. (Pack dirt around it to seal)
I slip the other end of the conduit over the exhaust of my riding mower and it run for 20-30 minutes. The conduit gets very hot, and I pour a little transmission fluid down it for special effects. Smoke will come out of the tunnels it is communicating with. You will have no more gophers in the area.

Sounds like the OP has gophers.
What I do, the "most fresh" mound of dirt, dig it out till you find the tunnel. Set trap and stick in tunnel and walk away. Thirty minutes later, go pull trap with gopher stuck on the end of it, take it off, bury it in his tunnel and fill hole back up with dirt. You can find these traps just about at any feed store. Word of caution. Tie a string to it. Caught one around the mid section instead of head, and it backed itself in the hole a couple feet.

Traps and poison never worked for me, but alka seltzer did the trick.

we have gophers AND moles... Gophers don't leave visible tunnels. Moles do
Gophers dig a crescent shaped mound, where thy come up on one side of the mound and pitch the dirt over. Typically their hole can be found just under the surface on the "inside" of the mound..

Moles do mounds too.. But there's are a symmetric round pile of dirt, with no crescent shape to it..
I've been fighting those little bastards for 2 years..

Adult mole can dig 90' a minute, so drowning them with a hose is next to impossible. A real good flooding rain helps since everything gets flooded at once.

90' a minute? I have always heard 12-15 feet/hour

They will eat the tablets and their stomach will start to expand until it ruptures, killing them. Only thing that has worked for me so far.

I have moles AND gophers in my yard. The moles don't bother me much, but the dang pocket gophers do & I've got lots of them. Don't use poison if you have dogs. Trapping is the only thing that works for me but it's a never ending battle. I have 10 traps so can run 5 sets at a time. I got tired of messing with them, so now I pay my kids $5.00 for each one they catch. Hate them suckers.

Ah boy! Let the fun begin! Water hose and rat shot. I have killed some B&C moles around my house. My mutt loves to attack them also. Mole hunting is the most fun a man can have with his clothes on. Rat hunting is a close second. aim
