Headed down in 2 weeks. Can I go to the boats and buy shrimp and get a good deal on them? Is there anywhere in RP to do this or do I need to go to Port A to do this?

How much should I expect to pay for them? Where exactly do I go?

I just want to bring home a bunch to have a good shrimp boil.

good luck! We used to do that all the time but I believe the shrimpers can't "legally" sell to anyone that does not have a certain type of retail sales license. But I would sure be interested if you find out otherwise...

Been a while but we found good prices on stuff at a Fish market on the way into the TPW ramp in Aransas Pass, north of the west end of the causeway.

I used to try and find good shrimp at the Corpus docks but it was always small bay caught, bought off the boat.

Alby's on 35 in Rockport
Casterlines down by the docks
Flowers, is a small shop in rockport also.

you can google all three above for address and phone number, also you can just stroll both fulton harbor and Rockport harbor looking for some aswell.

Make sure to buy head on shrimp, by regulations it must be caught that day and can not be frozen, beware head off shrimp.

HHUUMMMM, what to write, what to write, I got nothing.

There is no regulation that says they must be caught that day and cannot be frozen. Gulf shrimpers stay out for weeks at a time and flash freeze their shrimp daily until they are ready to come in to market. Most Bay shrimpers though bring their catches in daily and do not freeze them. Some head them, some don't. I prefer mine head off when I buy from Flowers because I know they are fresh. Sometimes I like the head on, especially if I'm gonna boil the heads to make a broth for gumbo. Wherever you buy from, if the shrimp are soft/discolored/smell funny, don't buy them. Brown shrimp should be brown, white shrimp should be white. A little yellow is OK especially on the bigger whites, that is fat. They should be firm and not smell bad or smell like ammonia or vinegar.

Yes there are plenty of places around to buy fresh shrimp, the three listed above are all good ones in Rockport. Flowers is my favorite place. Their shrimp come in fresh daily and are always nice, plus for every 10lbs you buy they will give you 1 lb for free (at least they always do for me). Most of the sellers that you need to worry about buying from are the peddlers on the side of the road. You can't legally buy shrimp right off the boat, the State wants their tax money BUT, I will say that it happens sometimes. grin

Huh, for some reason I thought there was a rule about head on shrimp. Thanks for the correction. Also flowers has lump crab meat sometimes that's great too.

up Yessr, & they also sometimes have some pretty nice flounder fillets. I bought some there once because I didn't have enough of my own to take up to the in-laws, I was impressed. They will also give you ice & will get onto you if you go and buy it somewhere. roflmao

Fishmarket right next to moon dogs. Get some flounder also while your there.

Then go steal a koozie from mickeys and have the fried crab or a burger.
