I was at the Denton show as well. Bought a Rock River Arms lower and upper along with several other parts. Just got done building one heck of an AR and can't wait to shoot it. My buddy has been building these forever and knows quite a lot about them. He said Rock River Arms is now the only supplier for our men and women in Iraq. Colt lost the contract to them. If it's good enough for our military, it's good enough for me.

Why is it cheaper to build an AR-15 than to buy one already put together? Buckmark and I priced it out at the Denton Gun Show and we could buy a seperate upper and lower(from the same vendor)cheaper than one sitting on the same table aready put togther. These are also identical AR-15s. we could do it for about $75 cheaper. Can any of you gurus explain that?

I guess it's cheaper b/c you have to spend the time putting it together. Not real sure though. It's not too hard to build yourself if you have the right tools. Took us a couple of hours b/c we had a bit of trouble getting the pin in the gas block. All-in-all not to tough of a job. When I get a pic of mine, I will post it.

Comparing an AR to a Mini-14 is like comparing apples and oranges. I don't consider them in the same league.

I've put together 2 Bushmaster AR's. Very easy and I liked it better because I could buy 1 or 2 parts at a time until I had all the parts I needed to build a complete rifle. I don't know if I ended up saving money or not. I found a good deal on a couple of stripped lower receivers and jumped at the deal. Then I started gathering parts.

I also have a Bushmaster that I bought as a complete lower with stock, and I can't tell the difference between the one I bought complete and the two I built.

Should I go with a 16" or 20" if I am mainly going to use it for hog, yote, and bobcat hunting?

I like the 16" a LOT better. And go ahead and put a collapsible stock on it. Makes it a lot more handy to carry in the truck.

Why not split the diff....I just put a 18" Noveske SPR barrel on mine... very pleased with how tight it shoots. (it better for what I paid) Getting about 1/2 MOA

Fun to have something drive tacks like that.
