Been shopping for the last few days, and these are the choices available now. Looking for a hunter/shooter for longer ranges than a 223 allows. Will get a scope and a bipod.

Must haves
Accuracy, sub-MOA at 100 yds.

Wants
Light (Hit to the Savage 10 FP)
DBM (Detachable mag)
Sling attachability

Which .308?
single choice

I chose the CZ because it has the best trigger out of all of those and mine was an absolute tack driver.
Not all those in the poll are submoa though.

I chose other because this will be my next rifle. Now it may not be a choice for you, but I am leaning towards the TC or Knight KP1. I want versatility.
As far as the others, you left Ruger out, any reason why ?

Steyr SSG P 2 , with double set triggers, Springfield 3rd. gen. scope
next would be Sig Sauer SHR 970 w/ Springfield 3rd. gen

Friend, I wouldn't harm thee for all the world, but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.

I don't know much about the ruger, would you be refering to the 77 MK2? Haven't heard anything about the Ruger, so I didn't know to look at it. Have you shot one before?

Also, which gun can't shoot MOA at 100 yds?

I have a Ruger ss 77 mk2 in 260Rem and love it. I had the stock bedded and it shoots 1/2 to 3/4 moa at 100 yards with 120 grain TSX hand loads.
Don't know if you are going to reload or shoot factory ammo, but the DM has some limits as to bullet seating when reloading. I have this problem with my Rem 700 DM in 280.

When someone calls you special it's not always a good thing!!

The best buy... is the Weatherby Vanguard green synthetic. It will have 1.5" groups or less right out of the box!

IMO, the best on the list is the Tikka T3; it is a lightweight wood rifle and very accurate out of the box!

No reloading for now, only factory ammo

I used to have a Remington .308 PSS, which I think is pretty close to the Remington VTR. Man that thing would make a ragged hole till I would tired of shooting or run out of ammo!!! I could kick my self in the rear for getting rid of that thing!! The VTR is lighter, but thats a plus, because that PSS got a little heavy!!! I think you can't go wrong with the VTR .308. It will stand out in a crowd, but will also shoot the lights out!!! The only draw back I can see is the muzzle break, it will be very, very loud. I have a friend that shoots one and it is one smooth rifle!! The PBR will be one heck of a shooter, but will be a little heavier then the VTR. These two will (better be, because thats what they are made for)be sub-moa rifles without touching them as long as you do your part!!!

I know you said weight was a hit to the 10FP, but I still have to vote for it. Hands down the BEST out of the box bolt gun I have ever owned, and I've had my hands on plenty. The trigger is unbelievable, and the added weight is negligible. You will not regret a 10FP, especially if you drop it in a Bell and Carlson Medalist and top it with some good glass...

I choose the Vangaurd!

They claim 1.5" accuracy, but every one I have ever owned did much better than that straight out of the box!

Hands down the best buy in my opinion!

As some of yall already know....I am a huge Ruger fan,and would recommend you take a look at the new Hawkeye! Great guns and at a great price!

There is a reason that 90% of custom guns use a remington model 700 as a base.

I have read good and bad about the Ruger, and honestly mostly bad about the vanguard. one guy at the gun store bought one because it's stock was prettier than the Savage's. Liked the weight of the Tikka, and trying to get info on a T3 stainless that was for sale on the forum. right now it's between the VTR, and the Savage, and the Tikka. I will do some more lookign on the Vangaurd though. No comments on the stevens?

I don't know, I was doing a search online and found some articles about the accuracy being lacking.

In the Vanguard or the Ruger? The Vanguards gurantee 1.5" groups out of the box and the Vanguard Sub MOA model gurantee under 1" out of the box.

accuracy on the ruger seemed to be lacking. Like the look of the Hawkeye. ALso looking in the stevens 200. New stock and trigger and I have a savage for the same price.

Yep...because you can't get a Remington to shoot like a Weatherby right out of the box.

Yes, I have a Ruger MkII in .243, love the gun. Have had no issues with it. I was planning on having some trigger work, but I think I will skip this as I plan to give this to my son and buy a TC or Knight.

Never heard of any problems with Ruger's, the only issue is the aftermarket parts are not as available as would be for a Remmy. But have never needed to replace anything either. Its around 8 years old and I get complements on it all the time. Its just a normal Ruger, but I think the complements come from it just being a clean looking gun.

The best thing I can say, is go hold each and every gun you listed, check the action, the feel of the gun. Pick a couple and then do research on accuracy and how easy it is to do accuracy work to it. There are a lot of good guns out there. I picked the Ruger because of looks, feel and how the scope rings mounted.

I honestly liked the way that the Tikka handled the best, but I worry about a light gun shooting a 308 having too much recoil as compared to a heavier gun.

I wouldn't worry about the .308 recoil unless you are planning on shooting 50 or 60 rounds off the bench at a time. When you go to the range use a PAST recoil pad; they're great for extended range work.
