I think some have forgot the difference in hunting a few hogs for sport and thinning them, someone who kills just a few hogs a year from a box blind and doing the job hog rush is doing is like campareing apples to oranges, and as one of the guys said earlier a hunter may try and find a general service bullet, one he can also deer hunt with, which I don,t think is even legal in texas on game anamals, with a fmj. if I was doing the job hog rush is I may well load a fmj high volume shooting and game recovery not a priority. I am usally a do it all hunter so I need multipurpose bullet ant sure what is best yet,

I am usally a do it all hunter so I need multipurpose bullet ant sure what is best yet, The only bullet I would select above what I currently use is the Barnes preferably in a lighter grain so I could push them faster. They would be ok for anything you put in front of it. Animal recovery is a high priority for me. Again as I said before, when I started using the 55gr FMJ those lost Hog numbers went down substantially. In this video, all shots fired were with a 55gr FMJ with the exception of a few kills by my guest with a 300blk SBR: Multiple running one shot stops. There was one in the field there where I thought I hit him low. Actually it was a perfect shot and blew out the other side of his head. It missed his spine by about 1/4". A follow up shot or two got a squeal out of him. There again, shot placement is very important.

Shot a good boar last Thursday night with the cheap monarch 55 grain soft points. Have been using them for the last few years on hogs and they have performed very well every time. 80 yard neck shot and he dropped like a rock.

be honest I have often thought maybe a FMJ would work well on hogs knowing u need penetration, but the deer hunter in me always talked me out of the idea . in the off season when am just hog hunting I think I will give them a try mostly trying to thin pigs on my two leases and my buddys farm . in deer season it a different ballgame even hogrush said that , that time of year I will have my 270 with my handloaded sierra gameking boatails legal on deer in texas and kills hogs well too,

FMJ is legal for deer in Texas so don't let that stop you.

Well after reading 5 pages about FMJ good and bad. All I can say is I reload and for hogs all I use in my AR for hogs is the green bagged 55gr PSP and have not had and run with vital shots and head shots. I have a skull that just got cleaned from a 200# hog that was a head shot. The top of the skull exploded. I due not disagree that FMJ work. But not a fan of them. I just use the other cheap bullet. LOL

I get called to come out on hog eradication now and again. I will gladly use the cheapest bullets (reloads) that I can get away with. We only want less live hogs, not a big deal where or how they die. I don't want any animal to suffer in death but these hogs are a major problem and they must die one way or the other.

I guess I'm really off in my observations. I kill over 400 hogs yearly and avidly reload much of my ammo with whatever projectile I want as cost has no effect on my bullet choice. I consistently find myself paying the premium price and loading up on factory loaded xm855 62gr steel core fmj. Most of my shots are taken from a Polaris ranger so I'm taking a shot from the rear with the hogs running away from me. Penetration is king on hogs. Most of them buck and run 50 yards with the hornady 55gr sp. Most succumb much sooner to the fmj. All odds are off when shooting anything besides a hog, bullet choice should be totally different.

You are not off in your observations. Experience speaks for itself. What I found on the steel core ammo was that it does not deform enough. On broad side shots I was getting way too many pass through shots like a pin cushion effect.
