Hog Rush, if you like using FMJ's then USE them. This topic comes up over & again. Different strokes for different folks. I choose not to use them for my own reasons coming from years of personal experience hunting hogs. Yeah, I agree. Use what makes you more confident in your gear. I get that. No need for the long Resume. You spoke about shooting in the brush. I choose not to shoot in the brush or through brush because that is spraying and praying. Bullets take weird unpredictable paths when shot through mediums like brush and vegetation. Whether or not you think your marksmanship is better than what you see in my videos, you cannot deny the fact that when they connect, Hogs drop. It is more about twist rate with a .223 than anything. I am running a 12 twist on the HOG RUSH UTV mounted M16. I will post some sneak peek video we shot last year. Now that was crazy.

Well at least you were smart enough not to include your own postings in the required reading part. Now I have hope that your students might learn something. And if knowing that a FMJ is not a solid makes me a "expert" and a "know it all" then I guess someone that doesn't know the difference (someone like you) is a "novice" and a "know nothing".

Yeah I heard that when you use FMJ in a 1:12 they become magic boolits (some guy from "Aabama" told me that). When you run them in a 1:9.....well they are just FMJ boolits.

Ok I will play nice.
I want to share with yall a story from last season. I shot a Turkey last year with a 5.56 1:7 twist barrel. The ammo I used was M855. Now I know you are thinking to yourself why on earth was he shooting that at a Turkey so I am going to tell you. Its because the barrel twist and the ammo makes the meat taste better. True story!

Would we get the same arguments if one asked which 22LR ammo is better for shooting rats?
Choose the right ammo based upon the backdrop and animal recovery limitations. If none of this is a factor, blast away with whatever you like.

This has been entertaining. I see more and more are admitting to FMJ effectiveness on Hogs.
My offer stands JCB. I will take up a collection to pay your way here to hunt if money is the issue.
You can bring your Rifle/ammo. I will throw a HI RES thermal on it and cap it off with a titanium suppressor for the killing. I will welcome you in knowing full well you will leave educated.
However, you must shoot free hand and post the recorded video to this forum upon your return to humbleville.
Seriously guys: I entered this discussion knowing full well my voice would be muffled by those who cannot fathom the idea of a FMJ bullet being anything other than a target round.
I was the same way in the beginning of this Hog Killing Quest I am riding. But after trying most "Hunting" rounds on the market and the heavier Military type rounds, I found that if I use the .223 on Hogs, I get more consistent results using the 55gr FMJ.
If I had an endless supply of 6.5 Grendel Ammo, I would use it. I like to see eye balls jump out, and man does it complete that task oh so well. I would run a brass catcher, but that is one more thing I have to deal with.
I like the .223 because it does a good job on anything from Coyotes to Large Hogs and I can find ammo for it. So every time I pick up my rifle, I compromise.
If you are a one shot, one squeal type of guy, great. Choose the best shooting TSX for your rifle and go kill a Hog. If you need to try and kill everything in the field, from field to field, night after night, find a round that has comparable results and is readily available without breaking your bank account.

If I get can get a free/discounted hunt too then I change my mind and also think FMJ's are an absurdly ridiculous choice for hogs!

We need a witness on site or else things may start with a he said she said. So, maybe we can start a JCB hunt/travel/ 55fmj challenge fund. He comes out with his magic bullets and rifle. I provide him with thermal and suppressor for the duration of the eradication. I would think $500 should cover his expenses of travel and hotel. I will handle the lodging. We will have a prayer prior to hunt. This will take care of the praying part of the "Spray and Pray" type of shooting I do. Killed 25 over the last two days. 55gr FMJ was the primary choice.
