I hope your high fenced because if not, you’re gonna lose all your 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 year-old deer as soon as you get them close. Everyone hunts because they want to get a deer. the people that hunt my ranch wanna kill the biggest deer of their life and sometimes somebody over the fence shoots it. . That’s just the way it goes.. not to mention the chance that a five-year-old deer is way more susceptible to diseases, etc.. and if you’re not deworming your deer, then you will never have true trophies on your ranch, whether you’re low fence or fenced

Probably used to be a lot of closet dewormers, but this new woke stuff they outa the closet I figure. Of course with Trump coming in they may all go back into hiding.

I hunt family land. For that aults, we want 4.5yr or older bucks to be taken. That's a tall order in our area since most get shot on other properties at 3.5yrs old. For the kids that hunt our place, tpwd AR's is the limit. Kids age out when their legal "youth" status does, then they have to adhere to the adult rules too. Among the four adults that hunt we've taken just 2 mature bucks in the last 4yrs. Kids have accounted for 3 bucks in the same time period.

It's not to say that an occasional nicer 3.5yr old doesn't get shot now and then.Usually by someone watching the deer until their eyes fool them into seeing what they want to see. Doesn't bother me though because I fail to see how taking one 3.5yr old from a herd of many is such a detriment to the herd.

For trophies 6.5+ years of age. For management and culls, my call.
