I'll be there to shoot the first little buck that walks out. I could put that stuff to use.

On my lease we are all related and have the same goal which is to grow bigger bucks. If one of us gets trigger happy and takes a younger buck that as good potential he or she might get picked on for the rest of the season but it is all in good fun and we are happy for them. We have decided that we don't want to take any buck that is less than 4-4.5 years old and less than 10 points. Good plan but really not going to help you with all those 6-7-8-9 points that will be doing all the breeding once you give them a lifetime pass due to not having 10 points.

Agree with stxranchman. you will end up with inferior deer. The 8 point gene will take over. Should be the opposite - kill everything under 10 points that is 3 years or older
You can't fix stupid

Yet there will be more 6-7-8-9's that never get shot than 10's when you are shooting all 10's at 5.5

And someone be stacked with 3-4yo 10pt+ deer despite all those elderly underachievers running around. Some of them may even end up as 10pts at 8-10yo, but chances are not good they'll ever get shot at that point.

Yet there will be more 6-7-8-9's that never get shot than 10's when you are shooting all 10's at 5.5 I guess this logic only comes into play if the 6,7,8,&9's are as "good as they'll ever get" when they breed….otherwise those deer could be breeding at 3yr old and on their way to being good 10+ pt deer.
Is it duck season yet?

If that were the case then why aren't the pen breeders breeding a buck like that?

Lack of pedigree has nothing to do with when all deer are pedigreed. Gumby was culled as a yearling.

Gumby of the breeder pens culled as a yearling? He shouldn't exist or even been born with known pedigree inside of a pen....

By not taking the 8pts your not affecting breeding because all deer breed until they die. Only way to control what breeds what 99% of the time...is a dmp pen Assuming you don't have an infinite number of tags and a thrust for blood

You're grasping at straws now.. Ohh no, if it were as simple as pick a giant sire and a giant producing dam then every breeder would be producing $1 mil worth of straws out of every buck offspring they had.

Assuming you don't have an infinite number of tags and a thrust for blood
Then you could shoot it down to nothing and have deer that top out a lot quicker than you'd like. But seeing how STX has his very own Gumby Jr, III & a nice dark-horned pale-face 8pt still living, I'm sensing since he couldn't beat me he chose to join me and my line of thinking. :large encore applause: :standing ovation:
