I know where the vitals sit on a WT deer, but what about Axis Deer? Are the the same?

I shoot a little farther forward on an axis
But generally it's pretty close to the same
On antelope and hogs is where it's the biggest difference. Their vitals are between their shoulders
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

They are further up inside the ribcage than a WT. An Axis has his stomach where a WT has lungs. Go straight up in the crease and about 2 inches forward into what looks like you're shooting them in the shoulder, but the bone is another couple inches further forward.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Speaking from experience of hunting a ton of axis personally or with clients unless you have a quartering away shot I always center punch the bottom 1/3 of the shoulder. I've seen to many axis get up and run off only to be found days or longer later to the "TV shot" or high shoulder shot. I know there's going to be those saying I've killed them shooting them high shoulder, but you will almost always find em' dead within 100 yards if you center punch the shoulder. Their vitals are further forward than a whitetail like TXFlip mentioned.

I'm thinking the white dot is the boiler room then. Thanks for the info!

From the axis I shot, the white dot…if I had it to do over again…I would definitely shoot the green dot! I blew up both front shoulders and did not hit any vitals, which is ok because I like liver and heart. okiehuntr

My preference is for neck shots but having shot a few different deer species I haven't noticed any difference in chital (axis) to other species.
I prefer meat in it's original packaging.
