This all fine and dandy if you are on a lease with these rules. I understand! I also understand that some people, including myself hunt in an area that deer will never live to become mature. I hunt in an AR county and people shoot LEGAL deer that never make it to a mature age. Are they wrong for doing this? Am I to judge them? The deer are legal. They are paying for the lease and to hunt, so are they wrong? I fully understand the concept of trying to manage but if I did this I would never shoot anything. I pay out the wazoo to hunt and would like to occasionally have something to put into he freezer. Am I wrong? I would love to hunt in an area that everyone hunts mature deer but I don't, so I think there is nothing wrong with putting meat in the freezer. As I said I do pay to hunt. My buddy owns a place in Colorado county much like you just described. 50 acres south of Weimar surrounded by similar sized tracts Since they have stopped shooting bucks less than 4 years old they have consistently killed 4 year old and older deer every year Go figure I agree 100%. I hunt in Lavaca County. I have said numerous times that the State just needs to stop hunting altogether for two years to help the deer population. I know this sounds crazy. It'll never happen but dreaming doesn't cost anything. Stopping hunt in the state for 2 yrs would be a recipe for disaster if we normal or above normal rainfall during that period of time. If the statewide buck to doe ratio were 1 buck to 4 doe and we got 80% fawn crop for 2 yrs population could almost double the first year alone. It won't double in buck numbers alone.

on my little place, 45 acres, i am surrounded by several smaller properties with nothing around me over 60 acres and hunters literally along and within sight of my fences. that being said, i have seen 4-5 mature bucks every year, granted the dont stick around for the winter, but they are all there all summer long and since starting cameras out there 3 years ago i have seen the same ones going on 3 summers now.
i would say that hunting pressure around me is pretty high and the total land around me is pretty small, yet several mature bucks seem to make it year after year.
if YOU want to see bigger bucks, i dont care where you are or how much land you have, or what your neighbors are doing, YOU cannot shoot them at 3.5yo.

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

It's perfectly fine to shoot the 4yo 9pts though.

that was one of the neighbors within spitting distance of my fence, and that was just one buck, there are still 3 that were higher on the list than him. that 9 wouldnt have been killed had he stayed on my side.

I thought he was Plan B. there really isnt a plan B out there anyway, my plan ends (dies) with plan A. Why can't a buck be a trophy at 3 yrs of age? it can, trophy is in the eye of the beholder.

Some say 3.5, some 4.5, some 5.5, some 6.5, some 7.5, some 8.5. And everyone is right in their own minds. I never figured this thread for this amount of staying power.
