OK, I'm gonna admit to this: the best deal on a gun I ever made was on a toy cap gun. Made in the '50s, brand new, still in the plastic and box. Paid $10 for it at an estate sale. Saw one not new but with the box sell on eBay for $350-am told mine would go for $500-600.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

An original Model 96 Krag Carbine. The model of Rough Rider fame. Dated 1895 therefore it was one of the first made. The title and description on the online auction only stated "Springfield Rifle" with a blurry picture. Not knowing what it was I took a chance and won the carbine for about a quarter to a third of its value at the time. It was well used as someones hunting rifle during the years after they bought it from the govt in the 1930s, but it was never sportered. Pretty happy when I filled that hole in my us rifle collection.

Last year standing outside a pawn shop talking on the phone. When I was done I overheard another guy with a rifle case talking on his phone saying "I don't know what its worth but I gotta get $250." When he was done I asked what he had. He said it was a Remington 700 in .270. He showed it to me and I gave him the $250 on the front steps of the pawn shop. He had no problem signing a receipt.

Winchester Model 1890 gallery version (shorts only) for $30.00 at an estate sale in the mid 1980's. It was outside with the 'junk'. If it didn't shoot I knew the parts alone were worth $150.00. Took it home, cleaned it up then spent a day finding shorts for it. Been shooting it ever since. Taught my son, neices and nephews how to shoot with it.

Got a smith and Wesson 411 in near mint condition with a laser for $300 at cabelas. Bought an old jc Higgins 12ga at CTD for $100. Which isn't a great deal, but that month they did a promotion where they would buy you an NRA membership with any gun purchase. I had planned on doing that anyways, so I only paid $70 for the shotgun.

A good ten years ago now I gave a good friend my hoyt bow since I was getting a new one and he was wanting to start bow hunting.... 5 years later he came across two .35rem lever guns and passed one off to me... tried to offer him cash but he wasn't having it.

About 20 years ago I was talking with a guy who's brother had passed away. This gentleman said he had received a shotgun from his brothers estate but it was just an old side by side of some kind and he had no use for it. I asked to see it, and MUCH to my surprise it was a Very Nice Parker DHE ,Titanic Barrels with most of the case coloring still on it! He said if I wanted it He'd take $500.00 for it and I said "Deal"... I felt a little guilty but he was happy as could be with the deal and I happily handed over the 500 bucks! I still have the gun to this day. Winner. x2

I've been on the other side a couple of times when I wanted someone to have something. I traded my marlin 336 in 35 Remington for a bud lite. And I traded my mossberg 500 12ga for a $12 pocket knife. On a side note I don't even like bud lite.

I forgot about one and it was actually the best trade I've made
I traded a Glock model 22 (I gave $400 for) for a bbq smoker on a trailer that was 3/4 finished. I spent about 8 hrs finishing building it.
Sold the smoker for $1200

I got a bunch of deals over the course of this last year but I picked up an FN SCAR 17s for $1650.00. The guy needed the money and it was a package deal on a bunch of guns but I made a killing on all of them really.

Uncle of mine told me I could have a Winchester 94 .30-30 and a S&W 39 9mm, I insisted he sell them to me and said I couldn't take them as a gift. He asked if I had a dollar, and when I pulled a well worn George Washington from my pocket, he said "sold".
From a non family member, gun deals that stick out are: A Tikka T3 super varmint in excellent shape for $525, a S&W 10 for $150, a colt detective special for $425, and a Taurus OSS tactical 9mm for $270 that I prefer over any glock I have owned or handled.

I saved hay-hauling money back in high school and bought a two-groove 03/A3 for $42. Still have it.

My dad seems to come across all of the deals. Like a Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby in good condition for $600. Or a whipped Pre-64 Model 70 in 300 H&H with 35 boxes of factory ammo for $500.
Best deal I ever picked up was a Brno 601 in 308. Had a like new VX-2 on it with a set of Conetrol rings, a nice tactical style soft case, half a box of factory Norma ammo, and a snap cap... $600. The guy still had the box for the scope with the price tag and he gave $400 to Cabela's for that by itself.
