Just hit the dang Ferris wheel with a BIG Bullet and it'll go round a couple times...wonder if'n ya could get Bonus Points for a Double SWING LOLOLOL
I gotta see if my 9.3'll reach 300-400 yards accurtely without looking like a knee mortar's round, cause at 100-200 it'll shoot with anything I ever shot in 30 cal or smaller. Ron

They were talking about early September but going to have to work around turkey and dove seasons to try and getting it worked out. Sounds like we might have those moving targets everyone was talking about. Lol call it "Turkey and dove hunting challenge" Lol the Ferris wheel was tough enough don't think we need too many moving targets. what better way to practice? unless you are shooting special olympics qualified deer, coyotes and other game you need to be shooting at movers..... the spinner is a blast to shoot but the intent of it, while fun, is to train you to be able to get back on target quickly and make follow up shots. The mover will teach you leading shots that will become second nature in the field. And its fun too.

Ron I don't know bobby was hitting it with that 300 winmag and it still took 3 hits to spin it. Dave I think I had a big advantage over the bolt guys with my auto. I hit the spinner and never moved off target.

They are really fun to me. I seem to do better under pressure and timing.

I had a really good time at the match. It was good to meet Wburke, Kroyal, Dave, straitshooter, Wiley, BigFitz, and a few others from the forum that I can't remember their names. The best part was the reality of the targets and how they related to field conditions of a hunting situation. Coyotes, Bobcats, deer stands, prairie dogs etc. It was cool to be able to take my 21" lightweight gun with a standard duplex 2x10 Leupold and see what it would do in a real life scenario for the most part. You didn't need a fancy heavy barrel sniper rifle to play. Everything was smooth and safe and I look forward to another one. I will have to practice next time to calm down my butterflies . The facility and shooting platforms were nice. Thanks for those who put it on and those that donated to the table, you know who you are.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I've put in a ton of work building the range, clearing brush, fence, platform, blah, blah, blah.
I'm really glad yall came out and I could share the range with THF-ers for a fun day of shooting.
Chad and I will discuss another match for September.

the key is to not care about the time or the pressure - the clock only gives you the false impression that you have to hurry up but you can't miss fast enough to win or take down an animal. In some of the larger matches the times are set in such a manner that you can't possibly complete the course and you will see people rush and miss, rush and miss, rush and miss.... the guys winning will take their time and pick up a few points that the time does allow. Pay no attention to the clock. easier said than done. it's also what you practice with.... you mentioned that the gas gun gave you an advantage over the bolt gunners but that isn't true.... bolt gun or gas, you need to time that shot and i don't think gas gives you any advantage at all. your advantage is that you can run that bolt gun well enough to shoot, stay on target and reengage. bolt gunners should be able to do that too. if you can't stay on target it's a whole other issue than the platform. I can't run a gas gun for crap - but i don't shoot them often at all, hell I only own a SBR and rarely shoot it. When I do its all over the place, all that movement with the BCG, the buffer, etc.... not something i am used to at all.

10-4 yea gas guns are all I run. That makes a bunch of sense about the clock. I need to slow way down. I think my first 2-3 stages I shot in about 15-30 seconds.

Dang right you need to slow down. You zipped through several stages and left 60% of time still on the clock. Don't worry about the clock, worry about the shot you're trying to make right now, not the one you are about to make. I've shot lots of stages at matches and had time called on me. Told Dave I needed to speed up. He's say why? You hit everything you shot at. I was worried about the one or two I didn't shoot at. I can't do that and still be successful.

I rushed and rushed feeling like a bada$$ every time I got a hit (pretty much ended after the first stage). It wasn’t until after the Pigeon stage that I was truly humbled and realized that I needed work. I noticed on the first stage, I got the first two hits and then just got lazy on the last one and sure enough, missed.
I started rushing with the tripod and chair as I wasn’t very comfortable, only hit 1 of 3 and just never really recovered my nerves after that.
All in all, I learned a few things. I went and installed the sling on my rifle that I wished I had during the match, I bought a notched leg bipod vs. the smooth leg I have and a Limbsaver replacement pad. I have started practicing all of the techniques I learned during the match and am getting more comfortable having to be in an unusual position and maintain a steady breath rate.
Next match I will be MUCH more prepared physically and mentally. I learned that shooting prone can be very painful if you don’t have the butt pulled into the pocket properly and that I look very fat in a couple of those photos...lol
Did anyone else feel themselves improving their technique by the end of the match? The deer stand I used all but 2 seconds on the clock and if I had realized I was out of ammo on the Ferris wheel, I bet I could have gotten a spin.
One suggestion, can we get name tags or something next time so we can all identify each other by user name? I know GLC, Fireman, Chad, KRoyal and that is about it though I remember several other faces, just no name to go with them, I probably got there after the meet and greet.

Also, somehow I ended up with an extra pair of green ear muffs in my shooting bag. There's no name on them. Let me know if they are yours!

Who was the RO shooting with Jason? Bald, quiet, bolt cycling mad man who was just really outshooting everyone out there even though he was not participating in the actuall comp?

I have one, and I rarely shoot it. Have damn fine pistol, too. Also rarely shoot it. Touched off two rounds with the bolt gun at 600 yesterday, though. And the day before that, and two days before that...
I need to shoot my pistol, carbine and shotgun much more than I do.

Ahhh didn't know you had one, thought all you had was the lower. Well either way I'm game for a carbine pistol comp. I think that would be lots of fun. You need to setup a 3 gun course on your range

You need to setup a 3 gun course on your range NEVER! Plenty of other places to do that, and I'm not even qualified as an intermediate shooter in that arena. Have a complete AR-15, have lower only in AR-10.
