Nice info and review. I tried to order a Flir about a month ago and am on the waiting list. Are you drinking buddies with the manufacturer or something? How does one go about obtaining one of the scopes? I'll be happy to send you a coupon for a 6pack if you can hook a brother up. cheers

TNVC is a full Channel FLIR distributor and has them in stock and shipping out now:

http://tnvc.com/shop/flir-rs64-thermosight/

Give them a personal call and see what ya can work out.

I tried out the RS64-60mm, RS32-60mm, RS64-35mm, RS32-35mm, and RS32-19mm.

The two 60mm germanium lens in front of the two cores is good for shooting from 300-800 yards off a stand or blind due to them both being very long range and limited FOV, the RS64-60mm does give twice the FOV of the RS32-60mm though. If you have a huge cattle pasture or large ag crop, these would work with a .308 real good.

My favorites are the RS64-35mm and RS32-35mm as they both will take out everything between me and 250 yards with ease, again the 640 core version has twice the FOV of the 320 core version. At night, I like to have the MOST FOV possible, but if you are hurting for funds, the 320 core version will get the job done with less FOV.

For economy and shorter range, the RS32-19mm can't be beat out to 150 yards.

The closest focus on the 35mm lens is 35 feet to infinity, on the 19mm lens it is 18 feet to infinity, so close up work is GTG too.

Here is my RS64-35mm:

Watch out for fangs out there too this spring and summer! worthless

Here are a couple of my videos to show you what a 640 core with 35mm lens can do at night:

These were all filmed in my backyard, game cam tree is 175 yards, tree line is 225 yards.

Many people are unaware of FLIR's software alogrithim that enhances their thermal sight images.

This is incorporated into all the new FLIR RS Thermal Scope models.

Here is an explanation of why DDE is important at times:

Only under extreme unfavorable environmental conditions do I even use FLIR's proprietary DDE (Digital Detail Enhancement) to bring out the background contrast above a linear thermal gradient. DDE is basically a spatial filter designed to enhance the high spatial frequencies (edges etc.). The DDE filter attenuates high amplitude signals, making more of the total dynamic range available to display faint objects and details. The amount of attenuation is automatically determined by analyzing scene statistics.

Here is a link to FLIR's excellent Digital Detail Enhancement proprietary alogrithium:

http://www.flir.com/uploadedfiles/Eu...TN_0003_EN.pdf

Digital Detail Enhancement (DDE) helps the human eye to see targets more easily using thermal imaging.

Human eyesight can only distinguish about 128 levels of grey in an image (7 bit signal).

A Long Wave Infra Red microbolometer core is assimilating in excess of 15,000 levels of grey (14 bit signal) and has to transform this into a 7 bit signal which the human eye can distinguish - otherwise a target will go undetected.

FLIR Systems developed Digital Detail Enhancement (DDE) to help make targets more readily visible.

DDE magnifies all details equally - so a small hot spot against a cold background will be just as clear to see and not be lost amid the dominant background temperatures.

This overcomes a major problem and is extremely important in acute circumstances.

It is an exclusive FLIR Systems product and is incorporated into all its thermal imaging.

Here is how I sighted in my RS64-35mm today, zero at 50 yards onto hot hand warmer and then move to 200 yard for the last couple of clicks:

Thank you much, I think the boyz in Texas are going to like the new FLIR RS thermal scopes allot, they are all easy to use and will be wiping out hogs and dogs soon as they are shipping out now. the 60mm lens versions will take another couple of months before they are ready, but the other models are.

Congrats Vic on acquiring official FLIR channel distributor status and glad you didn't get bowled over by hogs in the ground blind (see Skypups post above).
