I have noticed a lot of goats being passed off as hybrid ibex that are not. Some intentionally and some people just don't know the difference.
This billy has no ibex, he is a Alpine dairy goat billy.

Here is another Alpine dairy goat. As you can see they can have big horns.

And another. None of these have ibex in them, but this type has recently been selling for hybrid ibex and bringing good money.

Here is a Pygmy goat billy. Some of these have ibex shaped horns.

Here is another Pygmy billy. They can have the ibex horns and have the shoulder strap like this one.

Over the years we have bought a lot of the dairy billies and hunted them as Catalina's. We hunted the Pygmy's as African Mt. Goats. They are both unique in their ways, but they are not ibex. Because of their ibex type horns ibex breeders has used these breeds to breed with to have good hybrid ibex. I have personally crossed our ibex billies with a few Alpine dairy nannies where we would have some hybrid billies available to hunt at a cheaper price than our pure ibex. These hybrids will grow extremely fast. Big horns with big bodies. Hope this helps and maybe clear out any confusion.

Looks like I paid $1000 about a year ago on a "hybrid ibex"/ alpine dairy goat. Hind sight it definitely 20/20. Thanks for posting, Rickey.

Exactly Ricky! I'm glad someone finally said something. I'm tired of seeing goats on a particular website being miss represented and brining a lot of money.

Aaron and Don, I like the questions y'all posted on that La Mancha goat that have received no answers. The same people selling that goat were also selling a Jacob sheep I used to own, but didn't mention if you turned your back on him that he would destroy the back of your legs.

You did good Rickey. I also got burned a few years ago by buying 2 what were supposed to be "Pure Nubian Ibex" from a person that frequents this forum. $5000 for a kid and yearling. One even had a bad eye but since I had already given half the money I was stuck with him. I am a little more knowledgeable and careful now. I did buy a Pure Nubian kid from Circle H for $3500 this year sight unseen. I did first ask on here if anyone had ever had any bad experiences with them. None had so I did it and am very pleased with the Ibex I got.

I just looked through their "ibex" trophy pictures and they shoot mostly dairy breeds and pygmy goats. What a shame.
