They just aren't there like 2 years ago. Even on large properties with ample food and water supply and low hunting pressure. To this I often hear the argument, "they have cyclic territory patterns" or "they must have moved next door", but neighbors and fellow property owners in the same region, county are in agreeance of seeing a decline in hog activity. Many land owner's are saying mission accomplished, but I am very disapointed to see them go. If you are blessed to be on property swarming with pigs and think I am crazy, kudos to you, but I fear for a bleak future for feral hog populations overall.
pardon the pun...hogwash

On my property in Bastrop county they show up in late August and leave around the second week of February. I have a game cam on a large wallow (10 foot diameter red clay fed by a spring) all year round. Pretty much pigs there every night since September. Three days ago I had two groups with about 15 each at the wallow (one group of sows with about 10 one-month old piglets and another group with piglets about a week or two old). The last two days zero.

The more I know about hogs, the less I understand. I have three deer feeders that are about 100-200 yards apart. At one of them I had hogs every night starting the first week of September. I unfortunately had to stop putting in corn in that one about mid-October since a large boar figured out how to empty the feeder. Another feeder gets hogs maybe once or twice a week. The third went nearly five months without a hog showing up (this one being less than 100 yards from the one that continually got nailed by hogs). I figured when I stopped feeding at the first they would just go to the next. Didn't happen.

I did talk to one of my neighbors (a farmer) this weekend. He was commenting about how he has had no problems at all with hogs this year unlike the last two years. However, my property looks like a war-zone with all the hog activity (WAY worse than last year). I have ruts and holes everywhere (been especially bad the last few weeks). However, they are only coming out really late at night (2am-5am) and then disappearing. Hunted for them 3 times since Christmas and got skunked every time. I can hear them in the deep thicket but they never come out. I would hunt the wallow but the terrain makes that difficult (and with my luck they would run right into the middle of it to die and pulling a large hog out of 2 feet thick slick-as-snot red clay is not my idea of fun).

Seems to be a 50/50 split down the middle on this matter. Great points by all and really fun to read. The kill count is way down on the forum from even this time last year. People just are not posting pics of their kills as fast as they used too. I've heard from many that they don't see them anymore or they will go weeks without anything and then one night a few will show up on the cam. They say Texas is overrun and that 3.5 million hogs are out there. From a hunting viewpoint I wouldn't ever want them to go, I mean what a cool animal to hunt and there is nothing like night hunting for something as loud and dangerous as hogs. I'm not a farmer so I would guess there are plenty of people who don't want them around. I just wish I was reading more about how they are showing up on everyone's cam, and less about not getting shot opportunities for an animal that has thrived and adapted. I believe hog hunting is more popular now then what it has ever been.

I reviewed 1500 photos taken since Jan1 and there was one common trend--the pigs show up when they feel like it. am/pm/middle of the night and seldom on successive days at the same time. They seemed to be a lot more regular last April through October. Maybe it is because I keep flinging arrows and lead at them????

I say there's no less than there was, you just aren't SEEING as many.
In a short time of 4 or 5 years I've learned they're darn smart when it comes to their survival they learn quick when you hunt. Hunt in the day they hit the feeder at night, hunt at night they hit it in the day, hunt both they quit hitting the feeder. Pressure them enough and they move on to the next ranch.

They will never go away unless a disease gets them. Hunt them all you want, you kill 4 and there's 10 more on the property that are pregnant and ready to squirt out 6 or 8 babies each.

If you ain't seeing or finding hogs you just ain't huntin hard enough!

Also IMO they are kinda like deer... if they've been eating corn and some other food source comes around they may totally abandon the corn for a while.

They are doing what they do every year. Theymove where food and water along with cover are abuntant
I wont have pigs on some of my places for 9 months but kill 100 in three months. No ryhme of reason except survival. You shoot deer out of a stand all the timesmart deer will stopcoming around. Same with pigs. Granted people say they are dumb and Ive seen em do dumb stuff but you ain't going to kill the smart ones. Thus they evolve and become harder to kill.
