I have never made pistol grips out of cholla. I did one knife several years ago, that was enough. When it is stabilized in the resin you have the resin that is real hard and then the cholla which is pretty soft. As you sand the blank to work it to shape you have to really work at keeping the surface level. It is really easy to sand a low spot on the cholla. It also has to be sanded to 1500 grit because of the resin. I know I wouldn't try something as precise as hand grips but I bet there are some that have and some more that will try.

Here is another of the cholla calls. I think we will have to work on this color a little bit more, looks like it needs a little more red dye in the resin.
