Thinking about bowhunting around the lake a little next year. Would be going in by boat. I've never been up there wondering how the deer hunting is. What do you think about going in by boat, think I can get away from the crowd this way. I've been hunting Whitney by boat and it has worked out well, never really seen that many people deer hunting by boat. Any info. is appreciated. Thanks

I lived in Texarkana for 55 years and did a LOT of fishing and quite a bit of hunting mostly ducks. I would suggest you contact the COE office at the dam and get information from them. Some COE land is not huntable. Deer hunting along the river itself above Hwy 8 bridge should be good. Just remember that the bottoms flood consistently during normal rain fall in the winter. Best of Luck.

Are u talking about putting in at Thomas lake? Yeah there will be plenty of people hunting by boat, and can get crowded, alot of people from Texarkana hunt there, its tuff hunting just like any public land, not many deer out there, or hogs for that matter....but don't take my word for it go see for yourself...

I was coonhunting last year out of a boat on Thomas lake, and when we were going to the dogs we come across some weird $hit, we found this shirt propped up and stuffed with sticks covered in blood, and this jar hanging from a tree branch beside the shirt stuff with hair and some other satanic looking crap.... needless to say we got the dogs and got out of their...

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know where thomas lake is, I was going to put in on wright patman lake on the northeast corner. Park and ramp there called clear something and was going to go south to first cove to the west. I hope this gives an idea of where i'm thinking of going. Thanks

Thomas lake is on the west end by Bryans mill, if you have a map of the hunting area it's on their it gives you access to the largest chunk of land to hunt...

I was hunting in Virginia once on the N.C. border and came across this little back water "church" in the middle of no where. Little one roon wood burning stove kind of place. There was a large tree in front that had about 200 bra's strung up throughout the whole thing. All different sizes. Creepy.
