I have cancelled my pre-order. Too many poor reviews by gun writers and users who have gotten ahold of them. Here is a video if you haven't seen it (NOT MY VIDEO)

Sure doesn't look as good as the Remington 51 IMO Wonder if Timney is working on an aftermarket trigger for it
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

I handled one at at an Academy Sports store in Fort Worth. It is a neat concept but Remington's execution of the concept was very poor. It had a lot of gap between the grip safety and the rest of the frame, unattractive machining visible through the ejection port, and what felt like a very rough interaction between the moving parts.
I was one of the people actually very excited about the introduction of the R51. When everyone else was predicting doom and gloom for the pistol I was holding off judgment until I'd actually seen one in person. After having actually handled one, I know for certain that I won't be going that rout.
Aside from my personal observations, I have now seen a couple videos where the R51 locks up completely with a spent round in the chamber and where it gets progressively less reliable as the shooter continues shooting it. It appears to only want to run in absolutely clean conditions. I have also seen a couple of videos where the R51 significantly bulges brass, indicating it has a propensity to fire out of battery.
Maybe in a couple years Remington will get its act together and start making the R51 the way it should be made, but as it sits right now I'm afraid it is a bit of a basket case. I'll stay a long way away from it until I hear many many positive reports from owners with high milage R51s. I'd suggest the S&W Shield as an alternative.

I wonder why Remington let this crap go through? It just doesn't make sense.

I wonder why Remington let this crap go through? It just doesn't make sense. I was wondering the same thing. Don't they have an R&D department that comes up with a proof of concept, then a random production line test? Simply firing some of these pistols would reveal all these problems at the factory. If they knew about these problems, and sold them anyway....that is a whole other level of being a POS.

I handled one yesterday and agree with the above comments. It does have great pointabilty so the potential is there the execution is not.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Life is too short to carry an ugly pistol. The Rem 51 is a no go in my book. unreliable and ugly as sin.

More information about guns being returned to Remington by customers and then being held while a possible fix is identified. Sad http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/04/foghorn/wild-[censored]-rumor-of-the-day-remington-has-no-fix-for-returned-r51-pistols-yet/

Flawed design and Remington quality control is releasing some pistols inoperable. If you buy one, be sure that it is smooth and the sights don't slide out easily.

After my last post, I watched the video in it's entirety. I'd rather have an ugly Glock that functions than an R51 that has Failure to feed, failure to ignite, and failure to fall into battery. Watch the video. That is a terrible gun!

What are your thoughts about, other than the fact it is butt ugly, the Remington R-51 pistol? I really wanted it to be awesome, but after handling a few, I think it's a complete dog.

That one bulged case looked sorta like an out-of-battery detonation. Could be ripe conditions for a KaBoom.

You'll find certain marketing companies that publish written or internet based reviews on the R-51. In my opinion, most - not all, are very lean reviews on functionality and more about how US General Patton carrier one and how this re-design is a great step in the history of the firearm.
This thread isn't meant to be one-sided, so if you find RAVE REVIEWS for it post them here.
As with ANYTHING internet based - your mileage may vary....

Does Remington make anything worth owning these days? I guess the 700 is still good, right?
