That rack is interesting. From that I think more that 3. It will be interesting to see him come next summer.

No staining on that deer and set up for his front end to look taller. Could be 3, but can't see him breaking 100.

That deer looks more like a 4.5 year old to me.

I think you guys that revert to what a chart tells you a buck age is(based on body characteristics) need to reconsider how you utilize those charts. Those charts work for a two month period, from two months before the rut to the start of the rut.

Look at the date stamp on those pictures. That buck is run down from a month and a half of rutting. Any mature buck that has rutted hard will loose its belly and its hams will thin out. You have to start looking at chest depth, knee callouses, head width, where the head ties into the neck (jowls), where the front legs tie into the chest, etc.

This deers head and front end scream mature. his neck is slender, but onece again it is post rut. I cant get a good picture of his hocks, but if the rut ended two months ago, its not insane to think he will no longer be stained up.

Great run down 3.5 year old red coat.

Rut is earlier up north then down here, also with lower densities and tighter ratios they rut hard and more pronounced

Good luck wit him tanner, I bet he is a true stud when he hits maturity. Bet his mass blows up next year

I'm in the 3.5 camp on this buck. Needs at leaset one or 2 more years to reach his potential.

And I think the OP looks more like the 5.5 deer on your handy-dandy age chart than it does the 2.5 or 3.5.

You entirely missed the point.

I don't hunt Parker County. I don't know what the age structure looks like in Parker County.

Just like the deer in the hill country look different than the deer in the panhandle look different than the deer on the coast. And HF, protein fed deer look different than free range deer, etc.

You can follow some general rules and get within a year on most deer. I don't think any of the general rules suggest that a buck with huge shoulders that is heavily muscled and showing signs of a roman nose is 2.5, almost anywhere.

You'll notice that of every reply on this thread, you're still the only one that made that suggestion. Know why? Because it's silly. He could be 3.5 on the low end. He could be 4.5 (my guess). He could be a worn out from the rut 5.5.

He's not 2.5.

Fair enough.

Since you don't want to offer an opinion on a Parker county buck, how about a buck from Mills county, or Iron, or even Coleman county? Would those be acceptable? My point is don't call somebody out and say their opinion is dumb unless your willing to be tested yourself. Matter fact, I say you keep your aging opinions to yourself until you venture a guess on my buck with a know age. I'm sorry your advice is just bad in this example.

You pretty much have to have a history to age summer time bucks.

Sorry, but your opinion that it could be 2.5 is dumb.

I think that's fairly substantiated by the fact that no one on the entire rest of this thread has included that age in the wide spectrum of ages people have thrown out.

If you prefer the term "foolhardy", we can call it that.

Red deer are a little differently built than their Texas brethren.
