It means no one is welcome or so that's what I grew up being told. I think referring to BP for example. Then again the rio grande valley can be back asswards. So I wouldn't be shocked if I was totally wrong.

Any responsible hunter should. If i remember correctly, they cover it in hunter safety classes, and it is in the tpw booklet offered when you renew your license.

Rifleman is at it again...I always wonder why people bother with all the hassle of painting posts or trees. Texas is a private property state. If it's fenced and you don't have permission to be on the property, you're trespassing, period. No need to mark YOUR land with purple paint. Besides, it denigrates the beauty of a place...Unless you're a Tarleton alum.

My girlfriend, an Attorney, has a funny story about this I don't have time tell right now. The punch line is... a court order signed by a Judge trumps all the purple paint in the world.

Doesn't mean anything if:
1. you're color-blind
2. a poacher
3. an illegal
4. it's dark and can't see it

But normally means PRIVATE PROPERTY - NO TRESSPASSING

I agree, but I had a county commissioner and a sheriff's deputy tell me they didn't know what it meant.

this, if they want on your land this paint, lock, gate, fence is not going to stop a poacher.

Its a universal color for no trespassing and if you look it up (game warden showed me) it is an actual law that
you should know. We paint stacks of rocks purple everywhere we cant drive a T post and a sign into or hang up a sign.
Also told me it needs to be posted every 500 feet for it to be legal binding and the poachers need to be caught on premises
for anything to be really done. Sad- but true.

I offer primarily free range hunts and also preserve hunts on 1 million acres across west and southwest Texas for native and exotic game.

Every 100 feet in the woods and every 1000 feet pasture. Mark the entrance as well.

I'd like to think it might help in court if a trespasser is injured on my property and tries to sue me. My property is properly posted and they didn't have permisson to be there.

If you do have purple paint out there, and appear in court one day because you happen to be lucky enough to catch someone, you have a leg to stand on. If you do NOT have the purple paint out, you really don't.

Locks only keep honest people honest.

I have caught folks on my ranch before and when they tried to tell me they did not know it was private property, I just pointed at the signs, the purple markings, and the fact that if they did not know, that should be an indicator THEY did not own it.

The .41 mag on my hip went a long way to convincing them the right thing to do as well.

Russ

The purple paint laws might not apply in Oklahoma. Better check before you depend on it.

Yeah, they covered that in the Hunter Safety Course I took several years ago. I'm not sure I'd rely on that, though. Signs and barbed wire probably convey that message a lot better. If the folks are dishonest, there's probably nothing that will keep them out…
