There was some news from the Dr that I did not want to hear.... He said there is a possibility that I may have to have my ankle fused in the future. The amount of damage could have also damaged the tissue in the joint bad enough that it "may" be needed.
I know it is a small chance and only time will tell. He also said that he has not seen so much ankle damage from a fall.

It does worry me some but I refuse to dwell on it. I will take what happens in stride. I am still well aware of how much worse it could have been. I just ask to keep that in your prayers.

Target, take it from someone who broke 7 bones in their foot from a torsional fracture. You will heal bro, just don't rush anything. I was in the same position, cast 6 months, crutches, walking boot, took over a year before I could really get around good. when they clear you for therapy, do exactly as they say. if they offer the electro stimulation, do it! It really helps the nerves and it helped me so much i bought a unit from the therapy center for $300. Best money I ever spent. this is where you put the electrodes on and shoot electrical pulses into the nerves, it will make your toes curl and your tendons and muscles move, can hurt a little, but you already been through the worst of the pain. I'm five years removed from two foot surgeries, I jog, ski, run, everything i always did before the accident, i just do it a little slower. you will be fine, and before you know it you will be years down the road with some cool scars! Rock on man.....

I had a similar break of my ankle about 15 years ago. Broke it putting up a tower deer stand. Fortunately I had 4 guys with me. Went to ER in brownwwod and the sent me to er at Round Rock. The DR had just finished a major surgery on a car wreck victim and said he would rather do surgery on monday than sat night. So that is what we did. He put ankle in soft cast and pain meds and sent me home. After surgery he said I would never walk without a limp. I did rehab religiously, convinced my wife I needed a ATV to continue to quail hunt. Long and short Doc did a great job and I have an ATV and walk without a limp.
Good luck to you

Good news is, it'll make that pimp costume on halloween that much more authentic.

On a serious note, I'm glad its keep-able.

Good luck with your recovery. Looks like it is healing up pretty good. I had foot surgery about 10 years ago and was laid up for about 8 weeks. I was sooo bored and very restless at first then I got used to being bed ridden and got lazy. Once i healed it was hard to get going again.

You'll get back at it soon enough so enjoy the down time.

Wow Dave. Looks similar to mine....only I staples.

I haven't had a vacation in over 6yrs. I needed the rest. Also with all the pain meds I didnt get to restless. NOW is a different story. I am ready to get back to work. The thing is, I drive a wrecker AND it is my right foot. I can drive with my left but it is a little cumbersome. However getting out walking and hooking up cars will have to wait a few more weeks.

Yay. I am finally able to wear regular pabts rather than sweats and wind pants. The exciting thing is I can carry again. Now I dont feel like a HELPLESS sitting duck.
Unfortunately I dant have a pocket carry gun to carry in wind pants.

Well I went back to work tonight. This was also my first day to put any weight on my foot; Dr's orders.. take it slow, use boot and crutches. All went well and I did not have as much pain as expected. It actually felt good on my foot to have a little weight on it.

Sounds great man!!! Putting weight on your foot with just a little pain is a great step!!!

Yep. I also noticed a small amount, but noticeable, gain in movement in my ankle. I have been exercising it even more today.

So I am still on the crutches but much closer to putting them down. I may be walking with a cane for a while though. My final dr appointment is on monday and I first PT appointment is on the 19th. I am not looking forward to the pain from that but I know it is part of the process.

Monday when I go to the dr I plan to get copies of all of my xrays and post them up.

Glad to hear the progress. PT won't be fun, but it will be worth it. Keep it up; only 6 months until dove season...

Sorry for your injury but i can relate. Had a very similiar operation from a college sports injury. The rehab is a little uncomfortable at first but starts making you feel a lot better quick. Took me a little over a year to get back where i could play again but hardly have any pain now. Good luck and wish you a speedy recovery.

To the ones that have been there done that......
did you deal with the feeling that your skin was on fire? Just laying it on the bed or a blanket on it and even just touching it, my skin feels like I have a horrible sunburn. I have a very high pain tolerance but this nerve type pain can be hard as hell to deal with at times. It alone can take a lot out of you.

I have taken a couple of road trips in the last 3wks....yesterday I drove to Ardmore and back...and it didnt give me any major issues but man did it swell up.

Oh yeah. ....monday I start driving the wrecker again. I will have a helper doing my walking and securing the cars. Im stoked about it for sure. Back to making money.

My skin was very dry when i finally got the cast off but i cant remember experiencing the burning feeling. The nerve damage took some time to get used to and has finally returned to normal. Used to be able to pull leg hair out above my scar with no feeling approx a year after surgery but gradually came back.
The swelling was never fun. I kept mine wrapped up on long drives (ace bandage or ankle brace) to help keep it down. Glad to hear your doing so well and going back to work.
