Ever just take themselves and their gun and shells out and hunt anymore, or do they take all the accoutrements they can carry, pack or drag everytime they go out?????
I don't know about the rest of you, but I know in my case, and it seems like from some of the things I see posted on here from time to time, the more stuff I try to pack around with me, the more it is going to get in my way, make noise at the wrong time, get dropped or lost, or in some way cause me to either spook a deer or be unable to take the shot.
I am just curious about this.

i alway's try to keep it low maintenance. but if i'm sitting in a blind that usually goes out the window ,but i do condense all my gear to a backpack.

I've always had a "possible bag" of some sort, but only take it when I'm going to be out all day. I don't really plan my route, but always leave my general location with my wife.
Some days I strike out and go whichever direction will put me downwind of my prime area. That may take awhile depending on the weather, so I take my bag with me. It's not very big, about 18 inches long and about 10 inches in diameter with food (dried fruits, a few crackers, a can of potted meat and a candy bar or cookie), water, a couple of butane lighters, some rich pine, extra bullets, binoculars (small), a thin camo net, a thin poncho, and some TP.
For a 1/2-day trek, I just take small leather pouch.
I've gotten to the point that I can't sit a stand anymore. I try real hard, watch the feeder, the main trail, check the woods - but it's getting harder to sit still. 90% of my hunts now are stalking, which I can't carry a large assortment of possibles.

Speaking just for myself, if I'm going out for the day I want to have some water, a small something to eat, my compass and usually GPS a small flashlight and some TP. Depending on the weather there could be a few more things. I hunt as far into the thickest bottoms of public land I can walk in to. Don't want to be stuck in there overnight dehydrated or without any other "emergency" items. I would feel like a fool to have neglected the rule of being prepared. Everything I need fits in a waist pack. (OK, it's a fanny pack but I refuse to say it out loud). It's not the least bit obtrusive and doesn't cause any noise. Let's face it, after walking thru the woods for 4 or five hours with 4 or five hour to go, a sammich is pretty good thing to have.

CH, I mostly just take my binos, gun, and myself. Then when I get to the stand I find myself wishing I would have brought this or that. It seems like I always forget to bring something with me.

Haha!! You gotta a fanny pack...you gotta a fanny pack!
When my old leather pouch goes south, that's what I'll get too... I have one of those old thin leather pouches with the wide leather strap. My wife calls it "my purse"

Axle and bacon grease make good "matching" compounds... My pouch was once a reddish color (like the welding sleeves), but after a few rides in the back of an old Jeep I once had and a time or two by the cook fire, it's a dark, splotchy, brown. It matches all my boots...

i load up my bronco with anything I think I might need, but when i wake up and head to the stand I take a pistol, rifle, 1 backpack with gloves, flashlights, beanie, snacks, tp, knives, and something read. If I plan to stay out for more then a few hours I take a small lunch box cooler thing with water, and a few more larger snacks. I do own a "fanny pack" that came with my backpack and havent felt the need to use it yet, maybe I'll toss a knife, zip ties, gronaloa bar and some rope in it and take a stalk around turkey day!

After reading this thread I was starting to think I was the only one that carried a knife with me anymore!
Unless I already have a animal located I will almost always have a bunch of junk with me! The list may include: Cameras (digital, and video) Gunt call Flash light Coon piss Wind floaters Few extra rounds of ammo Bottle of water Gloves (if its cold) Face mask Trail marking tape Knife Candy Binos TP .......and I may have missed something too!
Most of that stuff will stay in the stand or the location that I am hunting! Rarely do I ever lug that stuff back and forth from the stand to the ATV!

If I've got my britches on, you can bet I've got on knife on me too.

Same here. No matter what, I have two knives on me at all times - a biggun and a lillun.

My basic gear is rifle, 1 box of shells, 2 Buck Folding Hunter Knives, 1 Leatherman Supertool, and that is about it.
It all depends on where I am hunting, and how I am planning to hunt.
If I am gonna be setting in a stand, I will carry snacks and something to drink, and once in a while a Walk-Man and an Audio Book.
If I am gonna be trolling the brush, the list at top is it.

I really like the grunt and doe bleat. It is fun to talk to the animals and have them come running. Some ignore them but most will respond. Had several come right to the blind within 5 to 10 yards.

Most of the stuff I bring is left in the truck till I need it. It's just my bow or gun, binos, and a backback with a camera and some disposable gloves and knife sharpener if I am stalking.

This is the point I was making earlier this week with the satirical post "I need some help" People think they have to have the latest and greatest, just to shoot a deer out of a box. Overkill.

Yep, just my gun and a few shells. I know how to lay on my belly to get a drink. This ain't the Rocky Mountains. When I used to do that I would carry some crackers, vienna sausages and a few matches just in case.

Funny you should ask. When I took my buck a week ago, all I took to the blind with me was my binoculars and my rifle. Not even my trusty grunt call.

When it comes to animals actually shot while deer hunting, all I needed was my rifle. Could have left my underwear at home for that matter and still been successful.
I once ran out of shells. I shot one coyote. Then shot another about 15 minutes later that ran off, I took another shot at it to finish it off. I saw another one a few minutes later and I only had 3 shells in the clip which were gone and didn't bring any extra. If I saw muey grande I would have been screwed!

I carry a ton of stuff. Rarely use all of it, but its handy to have just in case. It all fits in a backpack. The extra weight dosnt sem to bother me at all.
