2 knives, a couple of pieces of cord, space blanket , TP and some more TP, lighter, small flask of water, Louis L'Amour book and a pair of reading glasses. Other than the book and glasses, it is all for "just in case". The book and glasses are for me to sit and keep still. Sometimes, if I'm going to be sitting in a stand, I'll sometimes take an ice chest with 3 or 4 cold beers. I always hunt alone and own the place.

If I'm going to be prowling, it's just me, the 30-30, a knife, lighter and the ghillie suit.

I've got 3 crews, working on 5 different wells, out in the middle of 38 sections, of some of the finest big buck country there is and the rut's showing signs of firing up. I'll probably work till dark. Looks like the 300 Weatherby’s gonna be riding with me for a few weeks.

Boots? Uh-O my stuff don't match

I have been trying to travel lighter, and I have lightened the load a little.
But I still take more stuff than is necessary.

all i bring is my binocs, gun, 4 shells and a knife. all i need.

if i was hunting a forest or something i would bring a back pack but most of the ranches i hunt i'm only half a mile from the truck.

Wednesday before Thanksgiving will find me in Reagan County hunting at my buddy's place who let me shoot a cull last year. This year I get to shoot whatever I want (Last year on the lease). I'm not going to lie and say I'm not hoping for a monster, but it sure would be nice, maybe even a drop tine This is one of those places that it's possible. Last year he shot a 154 B&C 12 point and they've seen bigger. Definitely one of the best places I've ever hunted as far as big deer. I'll have my trust .243 and my Case Shark's Tooth folder.

For me it depends on how far from camp I am and how long I intend to be out.

This weekend for example, we are literally in my buddys back yard, so I took two capri suns and 3-4 slim jims.

And noone say anything else about my capri suns, as many of you hunt in crocs and carry fanny packs... (AKA f*g pouches!)

I carry a rifle, ammo, pocket knife and binoculars. When hunting deer the less I carry the better. I like to go light, quick and quiet,not much for sitting in a blind. If whitetail hunting, I will carry a set of rattling horns. The same is true when calling critters, less is better.

I have done a lot of guiding and outfitting through the years and I do not understand the large backpacks that so many carry to a deer stand. Now days, when taking writers on predator hunts, am seeing them carry more and more junk to a stand. Hunting is a very basic sport why complicate it with a bunch of stuff? Exert energy hunting, don't waste it packing junk that you don't need.

I carry a bacpac full of stuff, Pepsi, did I mention Pepsi, a munch of some kind, calls, rattle horns, and binocs, oh yea gun and ammo and mints to keep me rom smokin. Other than that I reckon I am empty handed. Last thing I take is a 175# bag of hope.

I can remember hunting for years and having nothing but my weapon of choice and a buck knife on my side, now its almost like I'm moving when I go to the woods.

I got stuff in my backpack that I will probably never use, but I'd rather have it than not in the rare case when I need it. You should see what all I take with me when I am gone for more than a weekend. I have a complete portable archery shop. bow press, bow vice, etc. I could completely pull one down and make any repair I need to. I also carry extra sights, rests, stabilizers, sts, and everything I need to fletch arrows. Only thing that stays home is the arrow saw.
