We pulled the game cameras this week to find some pretty bad looking injuries. The first is a young buck who looks like he lost part of his lower jaw. He has scratches on both sides of his face and his right eye is red.


The second buck had this pretty nasty looking injury on his rear hind quarter. The first looks like it's pretty bad but scabbed over. The second looks like a lot of it is gone. These are on consecutive days.




Any ideas?

I have never seen anything like this.

A real nasty buck staking out his claim, wild dogs, vehicles, Bigfoot, land mines....who knows.

That 1st one is in need of a mercy killing.

Both of them are on the hit list, after we've pulled the cards. The young one stays in the pen for quite a while eating what he can.

Car, ran into fence, yotes, fight, etc.

Hit by a car/truck? They are tough animals but sad to see them in this shape. Hope you get em

First one looks like his front left shoulder is broken by the way he is holding that leg.

Quack, he has no issues putting pressure on the shoulder in the other pics. It does look like he has a problem with it, but that was just one of the better ones that we had of his jaw.

Looks like other injuries I have seen caused by a mountain lion. They go for the hind quarters when the prey is running and for the head/neck when they attack from hiding.

Sad. Agree on the first one being a bad shot, but the second one doesn't seem to be in bad enough shape to have been hit by a car IMO.

How would a bad shot tear up under his eye? I think he got the short end of the fight.

How close is the highway? They both look to be hit by a vehicle.

We have roads on two sides of our lease, so a run in with a vehicle is easily possible. I don't see it with the younger guy. Maybe the yotes got ahold of the older after he was hit. That's quite a bit of flesh missing from the 18th to the 19th.

It has to be a Black Panther attack on both.

Jaw doesn't look to be missing on the top buck. Just the skin pulled off and away. Yotes will go for a jaw hold, so he could be an attack survivor. No guess on the other.

Any chance the first was caught in a hog trap and released?

We've only seen 2 pigs the last couple of years, I don't think it would be a hog trap.

They sure have been roughed up.

That first one looks terrible, but it also looks healed over. He doesn't seem to be wasting away and he's obviously eating.

Amazing just how similar the ham injuries are on the other two. I would guess predator, but it could certainly be vehicle impact.

They all look like they've endured some serious pain.

Speaking from a similair expeirence...you have any neighbors with kids going around shooting deer (anything that moves) with semi .22's?
