The key is custom building a boat to fit your need. I will never buy a store/dealer bought john boat.

Yes a 1436 will. a momarsh is only about 13" from top to bottom. Thats from a side view.... being it is designed as a hybrid layout boat it's only has about 6-8" side before it starts to round off and taper back in. So a 1436 john would have 14-16" sides. Not to mention it is narrow on both ends witch makes it sit lower. which is why when you see momarsh with motors the sink low in the back and plow more than a flatbottom style boat. So yes technically it will handle more water. I think you guys are missing the point. He is not taking this boat off shore. I think he is just wanting to haul a little more and cover a bit more ground. not go across the great lakes. Since the mud boats have came out...everyone has for gotten how ducks have been killed in the old days. Pirougue and dingy were used. all small boats.

I had my first boat built by uncle J in south la. Second boat built locally by WC sustoms. Pete lives just a few miles away. I helped out on that build. Ive been welding for about 15 years...so I bought an aluminium machine and built one for a trapper that I just finished. I will be building my own from now on. Just rather do it myself that way I get what I want and I'm not paying labor for something I can do. I pm'd Guy and told him if he was interested I'd talk with him about building one. I'm not in business but wouldn't mind building a few boats a year for fun and small profit to cover other projects. I think I have a very good design for this small boat setup. which incorporates a lot of the features of different setups all into one boat that will preform great and look great as well.

A 14ft will take more than your think... you just gota know how to hit a wake and hold your balance... just make sure its all weld and the floaters are good to go...and can even add more... that way even if you do get swamped your not going to sink... I use to sink my john boat on purpose in a good size pond just to see what would happen. just submerges a little and looks like a fishing bober ha. worse case scenario you get to much water the remaining air flips the boat and you paddle it back to shore with a little motor work to do.

Oh that cool. I guess there's nothing truely nore custom than doing it yourself.

this is bout as small as a 14ft gets and we have had up to 4 people in it... or 3 of us and 2 50lbs gar, and 3 of us and a 7ft gator... now the process of getting the gator in the boat was a bit hairy but got it done non the less

If you are using it for waterfowl hunting, a 14 foot ain't going to cut it in big water. High wind, plus dog/s, decoys, 2 men, will get you in dangerous trouble with a small rig like that. A jon boat is for shallow water only!

You need a aluminum welded boat, minimum of 18 feet long 5 feet wide, with 3 feet sides. This will be safe for most open cold water hunting, you can pull your momarsh behind you if need be. There is ample room for gear hunters and dogs, and it is safe! But this ain't no Jon boat. 45 years of hunting from boats will gave me some insights as to what is safe or not.JB

3 foot sides??? Where are you from? Might as well have a tugboat. 24" sides are considered high sides. So 3' sides with a 15" transom and 7hp stump jumper Thats gonna work out great! up

Yeah when you get on the gas, it plows, it only rides level idling a long, and that is also when it will run the shallowest.

Maybe next season I'll get a big boat, I'm at the beginning of my boating career, I'm starting at the bottom and working my way up. grin

I used to have a 15' fiberglass pro gator. It had a double hull and a stump guarantee. I would love to have seen how it would do duck hunting. It was basically a fiberglass jonboat. It could get anywhere and floated on hardly any water.
