The cree lights are crazy bright. I have kill light XLR 250 in green, but they come in white and red. I don't own one, but the cree lights from streamlight get great reviews. I also bought a Chinese cree light from ebay for about $20. It's super bright, but from what I've read they are hit and miss.

My only complaint about Maglite is the weight, but you put 3D cell batteries in anything and it's going to be heavy. I found one that I'd left at a ground blind one time-after three years, all it needed was new batteries and it worked fine.

Incandescent lights have had their day and have been completely eclipsed by modern LEDs. LED technology is still rapidly evolving so the "best" LEDs today won't still be top of the line next year or so.
Cree makes LEDS emitters that other use in their flashlights. I think that the current popular emitter for bright lights is the Cree XML-U2. You can buy name brand, mid brand or generics. Fenix is one brand that I like. You can also order direct from China through companies like Lightmalls.com where you can get lights amazingly cheap if you can wait for them (keep in mind most of the "name brand" lights are also being made in China, imported then branded and resold). Believe it or not, you can actually get real customer service ordering direct from China. I recently ordered 5 lights and requested single mode. They goofed and sent me 5-mode lights. I notified them via email and the are sending me 5 single mode replacement modules. As an example on pricing, you can get a UniqueFire HS-802 Cree Green light (hog light) shipped for $25
You should also consider what type of power you want for your light. I recommend 18650 or or 26650 Li batteries.

That HS 802 is a good cheap light especially if you lose them.
Better brands include Streamlight, Olight, zebralight, Fenix, Led lenser
Maglites are way outdated

Jet Beam BC40 under $40 with 2 18650 rechargeable batteries and a charger on Amazon. High and low mode.
I shot a coyote at 186 yards last year off my back porch with my wife shinning the light

This thread is so timely for me... I'm like a little girl with her new toy: the CREE P2. One AA battery and 310 lumens. I'm in love :-)

The beauty of a lumen is that it's the same no matter the price of the flashlight that produces it.

Don't fall into a lumen trap. You can have a 150 lumen light be brighter than a 250 lumen light. Lumens can be directed and amplified with internal parts to increase the output. Reflector plate and angles make a huge difference. Just an FYI

Costco has a three pack of Duracell 250 lumen lights that include batteries for $20. They are aluminum and the size of your hand. They are very nice lights and at $20 for 3 you can have them all around where you might need them.

Reflector plate and angles make a huge difference. Just an FYI I wonder if they do that by adding "tactical" to the name and making them out of aircraft grade aluminum. Reflectors simply concentrate the light with no increase in overall output. My preferred light when helping hunters find a deer is my old Coleman, double mantle lantern. A lesson can be learned by taking a $100 flashlight and shining it on the ceiling in a dark room. A $2 incandescent bulb which creates 750 lumens will make it obvious which one actually creates more light.

I bought a super bright light at basspro last yr. it just says xps on it , it's about 8 in long. It's has 2 brightness levels ,the brightest one is brighter than most big spotlights! When tracking deer and finding blood a really bright white light helps a lot , this light has really white light. Some lights are bright but have a yellow tint. Good luck on your search.

Agreed Dan, is it hard to find these for the Mini Maglite Pro? I bet you can even find AA's at the same places that sell beer.

Maglites are way outdated Have a buddy with a kill light that he paid about 250 bucks for that looks/feels exactly like the 802 that I paid 35 bucks (shipped with a remote pressure switch)... My light was just a low range POS chinese copy until he wasn't looking one evening and I swapped his for mine.... We shined them at targets in different distances with and without a scope. The look on his face was priceless when I showed him (and the rest of the guys there at the time) that the POS I was using was actually his light. Feels a lot better to lose a 30 buck light than one for 250 also.....
