My buddy and I's coastal adventure.

5:00 am arrive at hunting spot

5:10 am 10 year old kids of the other hunters start hitting each other.

5:12 am dad of 10 year asks what they are doing, kids say boxing but it was ok because "we are hitting below the shoulders only" dad says ok just don't hit in the face.

5:30 am arrive at the field we are hunting. Guides have approximately 20% of the decoys set up.

5:35 am my buddy and I along with other clients are told to start putting up decoys.

5:45 am female who has never hunted before (who didn't have a gun and was only with husband) told to not put decoys out in such a straight line.

6:00 am still putting out decoys.

6:25 am buddy and I push guides four wheeler and trailer while he drives because it is stuck.

6:45 am finally get to sit down to prepare to "hunt"

7:00 am 10 year old points shotgun at me.

7:02 am 10 year old points shotgun at me for the second time.

7:05 am 10 year olds dad points shotgun at me.

7:25 am first big group of geese begin working, 10 year old fidgeting around. Birds flare and fly away.

7:30 am 10 year old points gun at my buddy and I again.

7:40-8:00 am several more groups fly around but flare.

8:05 am first goose killed by group of 8 hunters

8:10 am more bird flare.

8:20 am 10 year old points gun at back of his dads head with finger on the trigger.

8:30 am 10 year old points gun at my buddy and I......again.

8:35 am one more goose down.

9:00 am group of approx 1,000 geese flying around.... All flare, so pass shots at 60 yards are taken.

9:15 am another large group working 10 year old attempts to mouth call geese but sounds like a cat being waterboarded. All flare. More long pass shots taken

9:25 am one more bird down. Only bird to light all day.

9:30 am 10 year old begins barking at geese.

9:45 am geese working so 10 year old begins yelling "here goosey goosey!" And continues barking at said geese(because it worked so well the first time).

10:00 am fourth bird down for group of 8.

10:15 am 10 year old sees sandhill cranes and says he wants to shoot them. Guide says cranes can't be shot now, 10 year says "I don't care, ill shoot it anyway!" Dad laughs.

10:20 am 10 year old shoots(3 shots) at unknown song bird, missed.. Dad laughs

10:30 am final bird down for group.

11:00 am 10 year old wants to start shooting black birds or anything else flying.

11:15 am 10 year old extra fidgety an points gun at almost everyone. Dad says to take the shell out of the chamber. 10 year old takes shell out of the chamber and continues lasering everyone. Dad says nothing else since gun is "unloaded"

11:30 am group told to start picking up decoys.

11:45 am female client corrected on how to pick up decoys, while guides sit/stand by 4 wheeler.

12:00 pm 10 year old takes shotgun out of dads case and points at everyone. Guide yells "what are you doing!" Dad slowly reacts and says "put that away"

12:15 pm guide gets 4 wheeler stuck....again.

12:30 pm finish long walk back to the car.

12:45 pm the day is mercifully over begin long drive back home.

This was one for the ages. Total of 8 clients killed a total of 5 birds. 1 bird of out the approximately 10,000 seen landed. I realize birds don't always cooperate but with all the fidgeting and weird noises made I don't blame the geese for not coming in. We stopped keeping track of how many times we were lasered. I've never seen such unsafe gun handling. My buddy and I hunt public several times a week and thought it would nice to make the long drive south for a guided goose hunt. I wish we would have just gone to the X probably would have killed more birds. Definitely wouldn't have had a gun pointed at me and wouldn't have had to take so many pass shots. I have no problem with kids hunting, heck I encourage it, but it's bs if your kids are ruining a hunt people are paying for. The kid was making all sorts of noises and talking loudly the entire time and was never once told to be quiet. I thank all that is holy I am able to write this and am not dead.

On a positive note the guides dog was pretty awesome.

You're a lot nicer than I would have been. Annoying kids are one thing but dangerous kids are unacceptable.

Screw that crap. I've been on a bad snow goose hunt that sounds similar to that but no where near as bad. You'll REALLY appreciate your next good hunt.

The second time that gun was swung my direction I would have taken it from him and had a talk with him and dad about my life and their lives.

I'm with you, I said all along to my buddy I wasn't gonna put them out but if we didn't help it would have taken them forever.

You are far more patient that I am. After the second time of being pointed at I would of walked over knocked his dad clean out and then had a talk with the boy. Once dad woke up id have a talk with him.

I am the other half on this. It is all true and was ridiculous. First time I have ever paid for a guide and probably my last. Was a complete waste of money. Should have hunted lake x. At least then I could relax which is what I love about hunting. Instead I just worried that dad or son was gonna fill me full of 12 gauge.

We wanted to but our car was blocked in where we all parked. If it wasn't blocked in we would have been out of there.

Honestly, that sounds about right for a coastal guided hunt these days. Guides that think they know it all, who call average at best shoots "great", and specialize in calling group volleys into a mass of birds out of range hoping birds fall out. "At least the clients got some shooting in". It still amazes me that people will pay the prices they do to go shoot 2 specks and maybe a few snows early in the season. I would be pissed that I just wasted my money, but I constantly see guides acting like the goose hunting has really turned on since the specks are decoying like it's a great accomplishment. I guess if they can make money doing that and some people are happy with it, so be it.

Sorry you guys had a bad experience. I too just returned from a guided goose hunt where I had to put out and pick up decoys and hunted with a large group (16+4 guides). First time for everything, I suppose, but next time I'll be asking some more questions beforehand for sure. Theres no excuse for a parent to be allowing that kind of behavior go on.

I had a goose hunt like that once near Katy, add 3 overweight elderly hunters who could not help set out 6000 decoys and my tale is almost the same. Your group got more birds than mine did. Ever try to hide 3 300 pounders in a rice field?

I will definitely ask more questions if I ever go on a guided hunt again. I have been on several through the years and always had a great time. I try to go on one or two a year so I can relax and not have to carry everything and all that.

They would yell get em... but they were 60 yards up and passing, there were several times we didn't shoot when everyone else did because we were tired of wasting ammo. The only bird that landed was a snow goose. seemed to have a death wish considering nothing else got closer than maybe 35-40 yards.

Welcome to snow goose hunting!! On the coast, it is normal for the hunters to help put out the spread. Some outfits you can pay more and just show up before shooting time and leave afterwards but that doesn't seem very common. Mixed parties almost always suck!! As far as all the unsafe gun handling and the fidgeting, the guide should had professionally said something. Also, this all should have been discussed prior to getting down to hunting. It's called the speech. You go over gun safety, to be still and quiet while birds are working, only come up to shoot when the guide calls the shot, don't have to give the guide a play by play on what the birds are doing, and most likely no calling birds except the guide. Big parties seem to be more common these days. I don't like to hunt with more than 4 or 5 people. Solo or two is even better!! As far as getting the bike stuck, it happens. Sometimes it's hard to tell field conditions from the road. Sorry you had a bad experience but if you goose hunt, it will happen!!!
