very nice. I hope it's not the first bird he has ever shot. The kid will be ruined

No sir, not this boy, he works and pay for his own shells and equipment, and my guess he will pull his own and pay for the mount of this bird, a well deserved trophy for this young waterfowler/duck call maker!!!!!

Nope daddy is going to pay for this one he earned this one.

Well,

After last week's roller coaster ride concerning the election and feeling like the world has gone to hell in a hand basket I pull up this pic and instantly I felt better.

You know something's gotta be RIGHT when a young waterfowler in full camo flashes a big smile while displaying a beauty redhead AND a banded drake to boot. My hats off to the dads that take the time to ensure that their sons and daughters know the joys of waterfowling.

So, with all that said, I don't normally do free mounts as I value what I do...but this time that pic was worth the great pick-me-up. If you already have a taxidermist I understand, but if you bring the bird to me I will mount it free of charge.

Congrats Jordan, you done good!

WOW Matt that's a very nice gesture!!! I can't see a reason why anyone would pass up something free. .... So if I shoot a banded bird and post up with a big smile can I get it mounted for free???

Jordan say's thank you for all the comments. He has read all these post and could not believe how many of you said congrats.
The bird was banded in Write Laurel, Md.

Mike Jordan also calls on the blind comment.
He said it was his great shooting ability and a determined dog that got that duck.

I'll have to admit that was a damn fine shot........Matt, Sir, I do not know you but that is a heck of a offer, and I know they will very much appreciate it, and from me THANK YOU.

I still say it was my 5 star blind, where else could you hunt ducks and have room service to boot. What about the fully stocked wet bar and 56" plasma.

Nothing like getting a banded duck. As time goes by, Jordan will realize why everyone is excited about his achievement. I think I'm pushing 10+ years now and have one banded duck in the bag.

Nice work Jordan!

He already knows why everyone excited. He knows the value of a band and how hard it is to EVER get one. He was still on cloud 9 this morning..

And Mike I don't remeber any wet bar or 56"tv. You must have been dreaming again last night.

This is a joke right? Sometimes its hard to tell if people are using sarcasm or people really think every bird ever banded came from Laurel, Md.

That is what the band says on it.

Every band says that. MD is where the main banding records are held. you have to call it in and they will send you a certificate telling you where and when it was was banded. more than likely in the dakotas or manitoba.

the only reason they "write laurel, md" is because before everyone had phones, they had to write the band center to get the info. no one uses snail mail anymore for banding data, so really they should take that off the band. most of the brand new ones just say call or visit the website.

people constantly say they shot a banded bird from Maryland, and i never know whether to inform them, or just assume i will look like i didnt catch the joke.

No prob. let us know when you get the info back. I would like to make a guess that it was banded 2 years ago on Lake Manitoba. Its just a guess in the dark.

yeah, i spent last summer banding in the sacramento valley in california. I can only imagine the amount of people that shoot birds out there and think they came all the way from maryland.

As far as the reward bands go, they are a green band on the opposite leg of the federal band. they do reward bands as a way of deciding the percentage of recovered bands are acutally called in, because they figure close to 100% will call in a reward, but only about 60% call in the regular federal bands.

Randy, see website below, follow the directions and fillout the online form, and it will instantly tell you online where and when the bird was banded, you do not have to wait till you get the certificate.
