Check out the Knives of Alaska website, they got lots of choices in some really good looking stuff around your price point, and what caught my eye was some 2 piece combo sets. They have an online store, or you can look at the Texas Retailers List.
The plant & company HQ is in Denison Texas out by the NTx Rgl Airport @ Perrin Field, off FM 691 & FM 1417 west of Hwy75. All of their field testing is done in Alaska...hence the name I suppose.
They will also have a booth at the Dallas Safari Club Show at the downtown Convention Center starting January 12th.

randallss7, MikeC would be great choices that could make you something nice for 150-175. Look in the classifieds now, randallss7 has one for 175. I've bought from both and am very pleased withe their work.

I agree with WileyCoyote about Knives of Alaska, but checkout their DiamondBlade Knives (diamondbladeknives.com). You will pay more for one of these knives, but your son will never need another one. So for a lifetime knife, well worth the cost. It is the sharpest knife I have ever used and stays shaving sharp even after heavy use. I have used mine to clean and dress 8 deer and it still shaves. Sounds fantastic, but true. I give Charles Allen, KOA President, an update evey year at the Dallas Safari Club show on the knife and how well it is holding up.

I use an Anza knife for my skinning/hunting knife. Have had mine for 25 years and other than showing its age, it has held up to a lot of use, and still holds a fine edge. Each one will have it's own unique look to them. You should give them a look.
Man, I forgot about my Anza I bought 20 years ago! Good blade. Also recommend the Fry knives and Pancho's here on the forum.

Get you a FRANK AGUIRRE (FAK) knife for around $75-$100, will be a one of a kind and last you a lifetime.

My personal recommendation would be a Benchmade Griptillian. It's a great everyday carry knife (folder), and does a great job cleaning deer and turkey. One of the best things about it is that you can flip it open with just a flick of the wrist -- almost like a switchblade. I've never had a knife that does that, but it's been invaluable. Just my opinion...
