If you were inside a store with camo on and a GW approached you, asked you if you hunted that morning, then proceeded to check your licenses inside said store?

I might ask under what reg he was allowed to check licenses if you were not engage in hunting. If he could not convince me that he had that authority he would not see my license. Respectfully of course. The law works both ways.

What do you have to hide? Give him what he wants and offer to buy his lunch.

When/if he asked me if I went hunting, I would say, "Here's your sign"!

I would ask management at said store to talk to him or call in a complaint. I carry my license only when hunting so what can he do if you don't have one. If this is legal then why can't police ask you if you drove a car today then ask to see your license? I think if said store knew that this was happening I don't they would be pleased as it could impact business. And I would tell him to no.

And for you guys that say sure then are you open to letting the government to put up stations at doors of cabelas or bass pro search people based on what they bought? It's the same thing. He profiled based on what the guy was wearing.

GW has every right to do that. Not saying that it is right for them to do it, just that they legally can do it.

The Wharton area is bad for convenience store/ gas station checks. Camo, a boat or a trailer with 4 wheelers is fair game for GW.

INSPECTION AUTHORITY: A game warden who observes a person engaged in an activity governed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code or reasonably believes that a person is or has been engaged in such an activity may inspect........

So the thing to say to the GW is something very polite so that he doesn't make your life too hard.

What is so hard about showing a license?

Won't work. Read what I posted above. GW has legal authority to demand you provide your license, even after you are done hunting.

When I was a NCO in the Army, I could have legally asked every Private to Specialist I saw to drop and give me 20 (Pushups).....but, I didn't.....because I am not an A$%........

There are good reasons for GW's and all Law Officers....they just need to do their jobs with some common sense.

Can you tell me where unlawful come into play? Is it just because I had on camo on?

Sec. 12.104. RIGHT TO SEARCH AND INSPECT. (a) A game warden or other peace officer commissioned by the department may search a game bag, vehicle, vessel, or other receptacle if the game warden or peace officer has a reasonable, articulable suspicion that the game bag, vehicle, vessel, or receptacle contains a wildlife resource that has been unlawfully killed or taken.(b) A game warden or other peace officer commissioned by the department may inspect a wildlife resource or a part or product of a wildlife resource that is discovered during a search under Subsection (a) of this section.(c) In this section "wildlife resource" means an animal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, or other aquatic life the taking or possession of which is regulated in any manner by this code.

So the thing to say to the GW is something very polite so that he doesn't make your life too hard.

Ok, I just dont see the need to buy him lunch? If he wants to see the papers, he's welcome to...seems like an unreasonable request though.

But since you bring it up, why buy him lunch? What's the motivation? He just unnecessarily delayed your day with his pecker contest only to see if you will submit to his will. Checking your license in a walmart with no reason is a stupid act by a stupid person. Not being a stupid man myself I would recognize I was dealing with a jerk and a badge...and thats not a combo you want to jack with. Would I buy him lunch? No, I wouldn't. He could see my hunting license, delay my day unnecessarily and go buy his own damn lunch. But thats just me.

Ok but what if you don't carry your license with you?

Say you went home and dropped your gear (so it doesn't get stolen at the store parking lot) then went shopping. Then do you have to leave the store and go home to get it?

I agree they should do their job and I believe they do a great job. I just think government authority in that case would be a little over the top in interrupting your daily freedom.

Yeah he may have had the right to or whatever. But that's like a cop asking you in a store if you've been driving, then to check your DL...........
