Depends on where in the county. Looks like the rut is come and gone at the place near mangum.

Outside of Carbon they are/were chasing. My BiL said he saw one tending opening weekend. Had one check out 5 doe on opening Sunday evening. The does weren't real receptive. For us, the most activity has been the 3rd weekend in Nov, but I think we've had more movement early this year than years past. No scientific reasoning behind my statement, just what I have noticed.

They've been chasing for close to two weeks just south of there. Cold weather and dwindling food supplies will push them over the edge.

Are you on the same lease as Jeff and Chris? (Not sure if I've asked you yet)

I watched two bucks high tail it after one doe this past weekend. The movement is still very sporadic. Still not coming out of the woods too much and most of my pictures are at night. All said, our place has been hunted hard by "friends". It makes it hard to pattern anything. One guy shot 5 deer last year and always "walks around" to try and shoot one.......with his bow.

We are just south of the Brown/Eastland County Line.

The buck I shot Saturday evening was at another feeder with six does for quite some time until I killed him an hour later.

He was pretty rank, had a bunch of mesquite shrapnel at the base of his antlers, and his tarsal glands were swollen and black. I think the majority of the slick heads were primed last week and probably will be receptive to bucks right now. Our buck to doe ratio is between 1.5 to 2:1 and expect we will see beaucoup movement over the next few days.

Unfortunately I won't be able to get in the blind again until the 28th, but I set out a 2nd feeder to hopefully bring out some of the deer to my right. About 2 weeks ago I checked my cam after being out for 7 days straight and had 1 cull buck, 3 different doe and 2 different groups of hogs at night on the cam. Not a single animal during the day for those 7 days. I moved the cam to the new feeder to see if anything comes to it. I am thinking the bucks where we hunt in Eastland county should be mid rut by the 28th. Hope, hope, hope...

Young bucks are coming to the grunt but nothing legal or impressive for that matter. Lots of chasing and does are running. Necks are swollen but the older bucks are not too interested just yet. I grunted in a young 6 yesterday and he didn't come in on a rope.....he just skirted inside the tree line until he got to the blind then he just wandered off. These next few weeks (like it has been forever) should be great hunting. Full moon and drastic temperature changes will help as well.
