Here is its DADDY My BIL lives near there. He sent me a article on these snakes that live in this town. According to the article their dinner choice is cats. I have always read that right around 8' is considered the record for an eastern. The article claimed these snakes to be bigger. I read about a big one that got a forester in SC. Hit him in the back of the thigh and penetrated the femoral artery. Now those are some fangs. He was dead in 10 minutes.

More like 7.5 or 8 feet… Still a big snake, but definitely nowhere near 9.5 ft.
And having the shortest guy you can find hold it up toward the camera on a stick… oldest trick in the book. I had my 5'2" buddy hold up a 7' gator and that sucker looked like a 10 footer!

The longest eastern diamondback ever recorded had fangs that were 1 inch. And nobody has ever died of an American snake bite in 10 minutes. The things people believe...... Especially in the age of Google where it only takes a quick search to call bs on a story like that.

I've seen where record on a timber rattler was 74" from the 40's...but we measured one that had been ran over on a lease that was 82"... 9.5' is stretching it (pun intended) but I do believe there are plenty of unreported snakes that beat the records that just don't get reported...it's a snake after all, not a lot of people really care it's length as long as its dead. For instance, Killer, what's the exact length of the biggest snake you've killed?

He didn't die of the venom, but slow blood loss from the puncturing of the artery.

Sounds like typical folk lore, to me.
