A year ago. Our lease is no longer "female's welcome"
If that happened to us, I'd tell 'em to go take a hike! As it is now my wife is also a "paid" hunter. HWY_MAN If you're tired of "Hunt n Deer" you could alway go "Hunt n Fish"

Haven't fired a shot in several years, I guess I'm more into seeing other enjoy themselves than myself. The next buck will have to go at least 170 before I pull the trigger and that's only going to happen if GOD smiles on me. Looks like I'm going to have another surgery on my left shoulder and my bow hunting days may be over (Not much left to work with). So what do you do when you decide to call it quits? I'll continue to do my Vet hunts as long as I'm able to but at a some point you decide it's over for yourself. Maybe just being able to share is the end result and I've always enjoyed that. crossbow?

That's a bunch of crap! I'd find a new lease. To the op I hope I never get tired of shooting them.

I have noticed a trend of landowners hunting not hunting their own property
Most landowners that I know quit hunting their own places after a few years.
My uncle has shot exactly one trophy buck off his place in 16 years. His wife has killed one and they have killed one axis a piece. There was a several year stretch where they killed nothing at all.
I can understand hwy's stance after killing a trophy buck on his place (which would be hard to beat by any measure, great typical buck)
It seems after a number of years the focus turns from killing deer to watching them grow for someone else to harvest
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I know as a land owner I haven't hunted my property in years. I plant and feed and run game cameras, etc. I shot a cull buck a few years ago out of my bedroom window but that was an exception. I do all the work because I love it. I love to watch them. The only hunters now are the children. The lessons that I have been able to teach will keep me hunting for a lifetime. Dont quit, dont ever ever quit. It is in our core and who we are. I hunted with my grandfather until he passed away. I hope to do the same for my grand kids one day.

Guide, family, friends and young'ins Yep Haven't shot a buck in 5 yrs. Funny part is I've never broke 120, but now I don't even pull the gun up unless I think he breaks 150. Had some high 40's and some that will break 50's in the scope but they're always too young or got something broke. I like watching deer so I'll always hunt. Get a bigger kick out of kids and first timers shooting stuff.

Well, we are all going to get to that day when dragging a big buck is too much work. What about dove hunting? You can almost hunt doves from a wheel chair as long as someone will pick up the downed birds for you. Compared to quail hunting dove hunting is less expensive and IMHO doves taste better than quail. And...there's usually lots of shooting.

That is the way it is on my place. Hogs and yotes are shot on sight. Everything else walks. My son is only able to get home every couple of years or so and takes our grandson hunting. In the last four years, my family has taken one doe.

I still enjoy hunting. A lot. I even tell myself I am going to shoot something. It rarely happens. Have shot 2 bucks in the last 8 years of owning my place. A new camera I have is probably just going to slow me down even more. My Mr. Hyde mentality has slowly been replaced by a Dr. Jeckyl mentality. A natural thing I think....
I love bowhunting and have yet to kill a mature old buck with the bow. Keeps me excited on that front.
Killing does is more of a chore than anything else so I let others do it except for my end of season meat gathering.

I don't expect I would ever quite; however, I have not killed a buck since 2007 when I killed my biggest buck of 194". I have let my son harvest quite a few and I have shot many a doe and hog, but I wouldn't pull the trigger on anything under 170" at this point in my life and he would have to be 6.5 yrs old for me to do that. All that being said, I still love chase and the hunt and hopefully this year will break my drought of 6 yrs without a buck.

Most people go through the 5 "stages" as a hunter. Some stop at stage 2 or 3-meaning they view it as sort of a competition and simply have to kill something to think of their hunting as successful. Even if they are older. I know some like that. Any 3 1/2 year old buck with 8 points is in trouble. Will mention after the season how I didn't "get one" last year-even though I may have photos of bucks bigger than what they shot. Kinda bemusing that it never seems to dawn on them that 1) lifting up the rifle and pulling the trigger would have not been too difficult and 2) if they had waited a bit one of those bigger deer probably would have walked in front of them too.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Respectfully if you quit hunting thats like saying you quit living…If its something your passion about at least. I really do mean that respectfully. Sure it gets the best of us all old or young at some point. Just enjoying the woods is enough to get me out of bed does't have to be a buck bigger than my last or trophy chasing. Those are fun perks though. Are you going to lie in bed tomorrow or get up and enjoy another day on God's creation.
As for money. Stop eating out and I'm sure you can afford to go hunting. Eating out is like getting robbed especially compared to harvesting your own meat.

I went through a lot of stages. I shot a pretty good buck early in life on wild land- no feeders, etc- and at the time I was pretty happy but I also realized I may never duplicate that event. Every now and then I figure it's time to eat some venison. I am an odd character I guess but does are okay- sort of like a big rabbit.
