The weather report says more sleet out west. I might have to wait for Thursday.

Are you on the same lease as Jeff and Chris? (Not sure if I've asked you yet)

I watched two bucks high tail it after one doe this past weekend. The movement is still very sporadic. Still not coming out of the woods too much and most of my pictures are at night. All said, our place has been hunted hard by "friends". It makes it hard to pattern anything. One guy shot 5 deer last year and always "walks around" to try and shoot one.......with his bow.
No,I take the 490 exit and turn back to the south about 8 miles

That will be a little more south than Freds, I'm 1.5 miles south of the interstate and Fred is about 3/4 mile south of me.

Well there you are..... I was going to say you're out that way but haven't seen you on here.

Tonight should be perfect with the rut and before the front blows in. I'm trying to get done early so I can get a couple of hours in.

My hunting partner just advised me that he shot a buck with his bow. He was gonna wait to go find him, but with the rain coming he is going to look for him now. 40 yard shot. Will keep you updated and hopefully a pic to follow.

Well not sure if he missed or not. He is a pretty decent shot with his bow, but it beating himself up over it because by the time he started looking the rain moved in on him and quickly dispersed the blood trail. Arrow was almost clean. Hate when that happens.

Don't ask anyone. Get in the stand and see for yourself. Deer not moving in one place may be flooding at another.

I made it out to our lease near Desdemona late thursday night..decided to sit in a tripod friday morning that we have a cover on, been seeing some good activity on cam there. I was only able to stick it out for about 3 hrs. 20/30 mph wind and freezing rain is hard to deal with...i mean Im a man, but im not that much of one..especially when i dont have a way to light my heater..lol, but No activity by 9 am so i went back to camp...Late that afternoon( 3pm) I decided to sit in a comfortable box blind with my heater and a box of matches...After running off some cows that think the feeder is their personal buffet, two does came out an hour later, right at 510pm or so..older mature doe gave me a broadside at 95 yrds... made what i thought was a good shot on her..went to look for her about 5 min later...found good blood sign so I was confident in the hit..blood trail petered out after a few feet..took 10 min to pick it back up, very sporadic, some times good spray sometimes a speck on a leaf or a bush...freezing rain wasnt making it any easier..then just as I was finding better sign..Spotlight battery dies !! I knew it needed charging but forgot to..Now I have to retreat to camp to recharge it and get a backup light
( lantern)..head back out about an hour later..start up at last good blood. Very challenging to find her as it seemed to peter out then pick up, but i was not giving up..just going to keep going..at times it disappered for several yards and I had to cast about for likely paths and find a speck that showed direction until I find another large area with good blood...I could even smell her a couple of times..I knew I was close but she was running thru briars and heavy cover so there was no point in trying to look ahead..Finally found her, not 80 yards in a straight line from where I shot her, but she went all over the place..Lesson to take from this? Charge the spotlight!!Seriously, Patience...Patience, and confidence in your shot, take your time and follow the basics of tracking.

FYI weather was bad and getting worse as of this morning...I left at noon and it was cloudy but spotty precip.

Good story and recovery OneShot.308. I will have a thread going starting the morning of the 27th and ending the afternoon of the 30th. Each day will be resumed on the same thread. I am very hopeful in what I should see and shoot. Lots of activity in our Northwest side of Eastland county. I hope to see the 8 point shooter that has been around. I will post up pics the evening of the 26th after filling feeders, swapping sd cards and changing the feeder battery. The 2nd feeder I set out last trip there seems to be working to draw the deer on that side of my area out of the woods. Acorns should be in rot so the corn/feeder activity should pick up considerably. Looking forward to bringing ya'll some at home excitement. Til then, hunt hard, stay warm, be patient and be safe. But above all else, for god sakes have fun and enjoy the great outdoors.

Frank
