Very Nice, Jason!!! A big congrats! I have done exactly what you did, haul out an elk on your back. The next year, we hired a ranch hand and his horses to haul it out! It was money well spent!

Great read and super pics, congrats on the positive results of the adventure that will stay with you forever any time some one mentions Elk Hunting in Colorado. You've now BTDT!

Yep local ranchers and horses are a blessing...an old fart like me I know hired a helicopter to pull his out one time...and dropped it in the back of his truck "down the hill". He said it's only money and I ain't gonna break a leg or blow a heart valve on that @&#@* mountain at past 60...I still don't know how he walked UP that hill to begin with.

All week Bill asked what I thought about where I was hunting. I said "it would be hell to get one out". He said " if you get a shot, take it, we'll get it out one way or another".

Wouldn't you know it, his friends from LA had left 3 hours before I shot that bull...with their horses. And they had been there for 10 days.

Doh!

Jason, I cannot begin to explain how proud of you I am!!!

Talk about...truly a hunt of lifetime!

I really enjoyed reading about your experiences. It mimicked mine, but you harvested a beautiful animal. I know exactly how exhaustive it is hiking up and down in Colorado and thruthfully, there is no real way to train for it, why do you think I hunt in Arkansas so much. Elevation is not quite there, but it's a good way to accalmate your self to rugged terrain.

Thanks again for sharing.

What are the specs on your equipment? If you don't mind sharing that.

Congrats, nothing like the first bull.

Add some decent work to butcher and pack him out, and that meat tastes even sweeter.

Welcome to the addiction.
