30-30 baby, that new hornady ammo is great. I have a weakness for 2 things in life, 1: lever action rifles, 2: girls in cowboy boots.

I moved to 25-06 several years ago and have harvested multiple deer every year with it including axis, fallow, and WT. For me its perfect. I had a Savage 99 in 7mm-08 several years ago and it was a fine caliber as well. I too love choices. Shoot what you are confident with.

I killed quite a few San Saba deer with a 22-250. Then used a 308 on a bunch of other deer. Have used a 300 savage and 243 as well. Bought a 7mm-08 this yea and can't wait to try it out.

Had luck with a 420gr CE Maxima too. Lol.

most deer in the TX Hill Country are taken under 100 yards its best to use a rifle that you can shoot well and only take shots you can make and it would be best to leave the rim fire weapons at home unless you like long chats with game wardens that end badly
