On google it looks a lot like a Texas Water Snake. You by a creek or pond by chance since the pic looks like that critter is on mud.

Yep - on a big tank.
I was out scouting a duck hunting location.
This bad boy scared me because I had the bird dog along and his is not snake broken yet.

yep!That is a scary diamond back water snake..yes! they are mean and will bite you..it will not poison you-- but will hurt like hell.
