.30/06 for everything...jack of all trades...see through scope so you can get to the iron sights in heavy brush if need be, scope for stationary and long distance shots.

I find myself carrying my 6.8 SPC AR-15 more and more lately. I did shoot a small aoudad with my .270 last weekend at about 25 yards. Yeah, it went right down.

That's what most of the shots are on my place, I usually use my 243. me too

270 for everything I shoot. WHether its 25 yards or 250, I am confident with my 700.

by far the best round for hunting in Texas is a .243 100gr. you can go to a 70gr. for varmint hunting and the lower grain will tighten your group on target. the 243 is by far the best round for 200 less yards, it will drop em dead and save your meat. Ask Hwy man if the .243 is the best round for hunting in Texas....

Well theres big hogs in Brown County so I made a .375-06 and have been carrying it lately, 2-7 Leopold and a Timmey trigger. Hunting in Oak thickets and never get a shot as long as 100 yds, but never had a big sow or boar hog walk off.... they all end up in the tamales.....

X2 Don't think there is a bad under 100 yard centerfire cartridge thought Gotta agree here! Anything I've got will work inside a 100, but I'm not sure I'd purposely take on a Grizzly Bear with a .22 as a first line of defense either.....

30.06 Very versatile and can be loaded to take ANY north american game under 100 yards. Though I have quite a few other firearms, I keep two of these in the safe at all times

I've always enjoyed a lever action but recently built a 338-06. I took a deer with it at 70 yards last week and was very impressed. How well does your 375-06 chamber and seat. I looked into it before building the 338 but read of shoulder issues. To answer the OPs question: 338-06 with a 19" barrel shooting a 225g bullet at 26-2700fps. Topped with a VX3 2.5-8. It's the flavor of the week.
