I hunted saturday and didnt bother on sunday. It was just too hot. I stayed in the stand all day saturday and didnt see anything. I was sitting there, stripped down bare footed with my overalls pulled up to my knees, just hot. And then the huge swarm of lady bugs attacked. They were relentless. I never knew there were that many lady bugs in the whole world. They covered every inch of my stand and tried to fly into every hole in my body. They drove me insane. I now hate lady bugs. Seriously, I hate them. That was my opening weekend.

Hopefully next weekend is better.

I went to my place in Olney this weekend. I only saw one doe. The wife missed a nice buck and my dad missed a doe. I only hunted Saturday night. I just really didn't feel much like hunting this weekend. I have been every weekend since Deer season has opened and since I got back from a week in Georgia on friday I wanted to relax more than hunt. Will hit it hard next weekend at my good lease since the rut is getting kicked up.

It turned out pretty good, I hunted in my new blind (that I built) and got me a 12 pointer.

Mine's the one on the right (closest to the beer)

I saw a couple does, and one spike buck that I let pass. The great news? I found a new spot for hog hunting!

Hunted the lease at Zavalla in Angelina County. Killed a spike at 0720 on Saturday morning. He came out of a trail at 15 yards from my stand. Still hunted on the creek that night and didn't see anything.

Got a doe Sunday moring at 0725 at the same exact spot as the spike. Hunted the stand again Sunday night and didn't see anything.

I let a friends son hunt my stand Saturday night and he killed a young nubbin buck right at sunset. He was shooting a 30/30 and hit it at 110 yards. He thought it was a doe.

Didn't hear too much shooting as normal for opening week end. I think a total 20 dear was taken from our 17 person, 1250 acre lease. One guy let 7 spikes walk. A few hogs were taken.

It was foggy in Brazos county until about 9:30 am. I thought I was going to get lost driving through the pasture to get to where I was hunting because I don't follow a road to the area where my stand is. There was a deer eating some of my corn around 7am but it was so foggy i couldn't see what it was until it walked away. It was a buck but i have no idea how many points it had on it. I was glad I didn't shoot or know what it was and wanted to shoot him because one of my dad's cows was laying in the grass behind where he was with her calf that was only a few days old. I didn't see anything the rest of the morning and I left at 11am for a break because I was getting discouraged. Plus the guy on the property behind me I think ran everything away with all of his shooting.

I went out for the evening at 2pm in the afternoon and didn't see anything until 4:45 or so. It was so freaking hot. The sun was on me inside my stand and I thought I was going to get sunburned. That and I hate mosquitoes. They were biting me through my pants. I'd rather sit in the cold than deal with mosquitoes! A little 4 point came out that I had seen on Friday that I already told myself I wouldn't shoot. A few minutes later he had a friend come out of the same place he did and I ended up shooting him. He was an average sized 8 point. At first I thought he was a 7 point, but when I walked up to him on the ground I saw he had an extra little point that my bad eyes couldn't see from that far away.

I sat in my stand on Friday evening in shorts because it was hot that day too to see what was out there and saw a group of 2 big does and a smaller doe and then another group of 2 big does and then that little 4 point.

It wasn't very eventful this weekend.

Runnells Co.

Lots of does, no bucks, and very few shots.
Nice big 8-10 in the trail cam, and 12" spike...

Had 16 Turkeys in the feeder Sunday morning, no deer at all.

Report from Washington County, Brazos River Bottom

Foggy...Darn Foggy. Couldnt see feeder 100yards away till around 9am.

Saw Deer late, they could have been moving early just couldnt see them....

Caught 11 hogs in trap opening morning and shot 3 more that evening.

The night time was very dark and it seemed like there was alot of wildlife activity after the sun came up.

Runnels County.
Saturday Morning, lots of does and a few young bucks, lots of turkey. Lots of corn thieving coons Didnt see anything Saturday night till right at dark.
Sunday morning, passed on an about 3.5 yo 8 pt. Hes a little to small, should be a great deer next year. Saw a few more does. more corn thieving coons. Sunday night, no deer just turkeys and the same corn thieving coons!

Sunday night, same lease. My buddys grandpa shot a small probly 4.5 yo 8 pt cull.

There has been 1 monster buck, hes at least a 10 spotted, and we have probly 4 mature 8's running around. Cant wait to see one of them!
Its too damn hot, cant wait to get cold!

Hunted northwest of St Jo in Montague County. Lots of does seen. Buddy had a young six run around the stand a couple of times chasing a doe. My brother shot one of the does. Looking for more action with the cool front later in the week.

I tried out the Tink's smoke sticks this weekend.. The deer in my area are either immune or have amazing will power and are able to resist the tempting smell of burning doe urine. I didn't attract one single buck.

Schleicher County. Does and young bucks at the feeders. The deer were sitting down tight. Kicked out several on a spot and stalk. Still green and mucho acorns. Its going to be real good when it cools off. Saw a nice one at the hardware store. Don't think it will win the contest.
