Used to see them all the time, not so much anymore. Had one that lived in one of the stands. He would sit on the windowsill while you hunted. Never shot one.

Only time I ever saw ringtails was when we hunted south of Sonora Texas and when it wasn't deer season we would drive around and spotlight. Always saw them in the trees. They are very cool and are NOT Raccoons. They always crap on a rock too lol.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coati

I included the Coati, as though I don't think any live in Texas they have them in New Mexico and Arizona.

Ringtails cats are nocturnal the size of a very small cat.

Coatis are diurnal the size of a coon.

Had a coati on a lease in Crockett county years ago. Thought I had drank so much that the badgers started looking funny the first time I saw it.

Several ring tails there too.

I've hunted since I was 7yo and never saw one. Have seen a couple as roadkill, but never in the wild. I wouldn't shoot one, but I'd love to watch it.

I saw one once down by llano but didn't have the heart to shoot it. Then found out the landowner forbidded shooting then as they supposedly ate snakes.

Well I thought it was a coon, all I saw was tail and I guessed where to shoot. 223 was probably a little overkill on this tiny guy. Oops...

Full body mount coming up

called one in about 25 years ago and shot it with a 12 gauge in Taylor county (thought it was a fox until I went and picked it up), it is mounted on a log just above me as I type

I see em pretty frequently actually in south Texas . Cool critters,, and I don't hunt them, I like to have them around. Seems like try may be next on the extinction lost.

Old picture, can't remember the date. Same hat I wore when I rode bulls in high school, so probably early 1980s. South of Brady.

I saw one in urban neighborhood in San Antonio last year. I turned a corner and noticed something in the very edge of my headlights. Stopped and hit the brights just in time to see it disappear into the shadows. Thought I was just seeing things but I saw it in the same place and time, the next day. Really cool and mysterious creatures. I wouldn't shoot one.

See them fairly often. They make great pets and are great to have around the barn as they are great for rats and mice.
Adios,
Gary
