In your opinion what is the best .308 ammo out there? I have a budget of $50 or less. I'm cautious about Winchester ammo because a couple of times I have had a misfire or jam with that ammo in both a .270 and 12 gauge. However if I get some people swearing by it I might go back to it. I want a good ammo that will take a hog from 80-100 yards away and drop him in his tracks.
Thanks, Jhog

I would think with a 308 almost any ammo is good, especially head shots. I use the cheapo Winchester gray box 150 grain Power Point and knock them flat all of the time. I guess I have had better luck with Winchester than you have. If you get enough people reply you will probably see most 308 ammo that is made on this this post.

I use Nosler 150 grain. Deadly accurate and cheaper than you'd think. i get it from midway usa

The Wally World blue box 180 grain Federal ammo works great and is cheap.

Agree any 308 ammo will work, now if you want to get some good ammo get Ted nuget blue tip. $49 for 20 rds. But thats just if you want good ammo, bc for hogs I would get any available.

my .308 likes Fusion's. they're $26 a box and are very accurate. this porker took one underneath the ear and went down. hit her again with the lower shot when she started doing the running man ![smile smile](/forum/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) ![](http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz350/paulrogers211/EFF4A31F-E15A-41A1-B75E-B2D71C4CC56C-2964-0000006926C011C8_zpscc6a4664.jpg)

For hogs, with a .308 any soft point will do. I use 150 and 180 grain in my rifles. The 180's have always exited, even with hogs weighing well over 200 Lbs. The 150's haven't always exited, but they go almost all the way through when they don't exit. I reload, and I just use Hornady Interlock bullets. Just your basic cup/core soft point. Remington Core-Lokt, Winchester Power Points - they all work. I wouldn't spend extra money on a fancy bullet. Hogs aren't built like Moose.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

The Winchester Razorback is designed for Hogs. Penetrates first them expands is the concept. Have DRTed quite a few with them. They are right at your budget limit at about 40 a box

Vote for Remington Core-Lokt. I really can't see spending $30-$40 for "special ammo" It's all about placement shots. If you shoot just behind the ear for a brain shot that should "DRT". I prefer the lung or heart shot.

I would shoot what is most accurate in your rifle.

.308 just seems like "overkill" in my opinion. Cheaper, more effective calibers/loads out there. Nosler bullets.....

I agree with most here, when shooting a 308 for hogs I use whatever I have. Even the cheapos work more than ok.

Don't shoot much factory ammo but my bullets are 168gr Sierra game king with 44g reloader 15. Great penitration through bone. Don't shoot much in the body but I hit a big boar on the run a few months back and went through both shoulders, flipped him and he was dead when he stopped tumbling. Made a firm believer outta me

I would shoot what is most accurate in your rifle. This... ^^^^ What runs in someone elses weapon may not run well in yours... That said, Remington 150 grain Core-Lokts run perfect in mine.

.308 just seems like "overkill" in my opinion. Cheaper, more effective calibers/loads out there. Nosler bullets..... Don't know about your hogs in Washington, but its a great round for hogs down here....and at less than a buck a round for Core-Lokts, the price is right...

Very true, between my dad and I we have 4 different 308's and every one of them shoots a different load. Different bullets, different powders, overall lengths its all a game of fine tuning when it comes to reloading. I just stated the most dependable load that I had found on penitration through body shots. I sometimes hunt with a 150 hornady amax that absolutely explodes when it hits bone. Zero penatration but very accurate. Shoot em the ear no prob. Doesn't matter what bullet u shoot if u shoot head shots

Nosler bt or accubond federal loads the bt the accubond does better on big hogs with thick shields cause you don't always get head shots but get what shoots best in your gun
PULL the TRIGGER, SHOOT to KILL!!!

Whatever your rifle and wallet prefers. My savage 10 with 22 inch barrel really liked BVAC 168g and Sierra Match King 168g that "were" like $20-30a box. New savage 110 with 20 inch loves 175g Sierra Match Kings. If you're not shooting very far junk ammo will do the trick. Both my rifles shoot 1/4 to 1/2 inch groups @ 100 yds all day with above. With the cheap surplus type ammo I had consent flyers. On a bolt gun you only get 1 shot most times so 20 rounds would be 20 recoveries.

I would shoot what is most accurate in your rifle. Actually, I'd use whatever shoots reasonably well in your rifle. If Core-Lokt's or PowerPoints shot 1" groups and Nosler or whatever shot 3/4" groups but cost twice as much, I'd say the ordinary bullets were good enough. I wouldn't spend double the money just to get an extra 1/4" accuracy at 100 yards. And for sure, ordinary cup and core bullets will put down big hogs so why spend extra cash? The hogs I've lost haven't been because I didn't use enough bullet, but because I didn't make a good shot.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

I have used it all and if you are a good shot there will be no problem. I am partial to Hornady SST as I take longer shots and the drop is not as much. The good thing about .308 Caliber it will knock the pig down even if you are off with the shot. Get in the field and put up some pics friend
