From what I have heard, similar to last season or slightly higher. Do you need any fur buyer contacts?

Last year are may be the year befor the carcass of a coon would bring around $5 and the hide was $1.50. This was from a guy in Ozona that I called. He said the meat was used in pet food.

Most of the coon fur is being bought up by Russia & those areas, they have pretty much trapped everything out but the demand is HIGH this year.

Are these local and traveling buyers these days preferring to by in the round rather than green? Or at least with some animals, if the market is for the meat now.

The meat Market for coons is supposed to be good and I called a buyer the other day who siad he thought he pelts would start out at $20 to $25, but would probably wind up around $15 by the time the seasons over. I believe last year the pelts were $14 and the meat alone was $8, if you skin one out make sure you leave one back foot(the pad and toes) on the coon so they can identify it as a coon.

Here are the current projections. REGION 5
BEAVER: Early finished blankets and XL’s will top at $10 to $12; eastern section with most of these goods headed for the hatter market; low averages. Western section once fully prime $16 to $18. Oklahoma top skins hit around $20 last season and should do as well this year. Averages on finished goods around $10.
BADGER: Pale goods should see a tops of $25 to $28
RED FOX: Goods from the eastern section opening at $14 to $16 tops, Western goods $16 to $20 likely. Panhandle types at $20.
GRAY FOX: Early prices in the range of $22 to $24 for eastern sections; western goods at $24 to $26. Market unsettled due to limited carryover. This is expected to be resolved with first international auction.
RACCOON: The best finished coat types XXXL, XXL, & XL’s, A/B I’s & II’s. will likely see offers of $8 to $10. Color will be a factor. Semi-heavies from western higher elevations at $12 to $14; averages in the range of $8 to $9.. Look for meat market for carcass sales, $4 likely.
COYOTE: East Texas types at $10 to $12 for the best, with the westerns at $16 to $18. Large carryover has buyers moving out of this market. Maybe hard to sell.
OTTER: . Speculators taking some at $30 to $35.
BOBCAT: Eastern types at $35, tops if wide well marked bellies, Some well marked New Mexico, and Panhandle types at $100 to $125. Buyer are expected to take a “wait and see” approach until the movement of high fashion market is determined.

If you dont totally distroy the meat on a coon & propertly fridge or freeze it(fur on body). I forgot all the steps & prep for selling the coon meat, hide & all.

Info on selling the freezing a whole coon would be great. Especially since down here in south Texas we don't get as full of a hide you ya'll in central and north Texas do. Do any of y'all know fur buyers that come near Corpus or San Antonio?

Forgive the new guy here but I have a couple of simple questions about Fur Buying.
What is the typical process for someone buying fur say from a coyote? How do they want the fur to be? Does it need to be tanned? I have never sold any and would like to get some of the base information for selling furs. Also do any of the people buying furs allow them to be shipped or is it always drive and deliver them?
Reason I ask that is because all the places listed in this forum post are a ways away from me.

they dont have to be tanned. yes you can ship to buyers here in tx or ship them up north to the auctions. most of the fur buyers will run a "route" every 2 weeks or so. check for flyers at feed stores, outdoor stores and so forth. if you have never sold be sure and skin them properly. dont cut them down the middle. go from back foot to back foot, throught the butt hole and peel them inside out like you would take off a sock.

I've been thinking about it, just waiting for a couple of really cold days
You can kill a fly with a sledgehammer.
But do you really need to son?

No they do not need to be tanned but the buyer wants the hides cased out. that is cut from one leg to the other and the hide pealed like a . if you are going to sell the hides it well require a trappers license as well a hunting license. Some area of texas has quartean on hides due to ticks. you can sell them but you have to have them cleaned first. also don't forget about the meat of the critter. ask if they buy them as well some do. two years ago the hide of a coon was around $2 and the meat was $3.If you have a way to freeze you well get more $$ later in the year. turn the fur out to keep the meat from burning in the freezer. If you are going to ship fur thaw the hides and put dry ice on the hides. dry the hides very very good as the ice and water will form a gas. You can put a small hole in the box about 1/4 " and it should take care of it.
and by the way there is a season on trapping. unless they changed the law it will start Dec 1st..
Good luck

Some buyers will take them WHOLE & FROZEN, so that they can get them cut how they want. Lots of times someone gets a good hide but ruins it but cutting it all up. If you know how & CAN take the hide well, have at it...but if you arent sure, call & see if the buyer will take it whole frozen instead. Especially if its a good one.

I will buy bobcat meat, $5 per animal. Please just field dress it like you would a rabbit or squirrel, and freeze it. We are in Parker County, but do make trips elsewhere in Texas. Like with coons, a back foot needs to be attached, as I do not want coon meat...
Thanks

I will start trapping/calling first week of December. If you want to maximize your $$$ flesh and stretch then sell. I averaged $165 on west Texas cats last year with tops being $240. Green skinned and at the country buyer they were offering $75-100.
