Great pictures, I would call the hunt a success, that smile said it all.

Yeah, she loves the ranch. I love having her with me.
She's 6 this year, that's how old I was when I took my first one. I have a little single shot .223 for her, but I might let her shoot either the the 22-250 or even the .243. We've been working on holding it properly against her shoulder and squeezing the trigger.
She has shot various .22's and my .17, but I'm not sure how she will react to the recoil of the bigger calibers. I haven't had her take any practice shots because I want her to shoot it for the first time with her adrenaline going.

I'd be practicing with her and the .223. Not much recoil and a proper high shoulder will anchor deer. 100's of deer have been taken with .223's, no need to scare her with a .243. Make sure she's confident with the gun and the shot is within her comfort zone.
Cool pics!!

The problem with the 223 is that it's a cheap one and I've had some light primer strikes. That's the last thing I want to happen this weekend. Also, I don't have any good 223 (it's all cheap fmj stuff) and its still hard to find good stuff at the store.
That's the only reason I'm considering the other calibers.

But there's an old 6 point that was hoping to get on with her and I wanted plenty of power for it. But, I probably just need to stick to a young doe for her for now.

spibiggie, let her kill that 6 point if he needs to go. 223 is plenty, if she's good with it and he's within her comfort zone. Let her punch lots of paper with it until she's comfortable then really try to drive home shot placement. Find some good shells for it, even if you have to order them. Let her practice with the cheap junk rounds, if they're close to the same as what you order, until its go time. High shoulder shots are my kiddos favorite and they are hell on deer with a .223. I let my kids draw a pic of a deer then tell me where to shoot it and why. My boy is 10 now and owns .243's, but still loves to hunt with his .223 because he's confident with it and he has shot lots of deer with it. Good job Dad, you're doing it right.

Ear muff's make a world of difference. I hunt a lot of kids at the ranch and they flinch more from the noise then the recoil. My daughter is 10 and will shoot anything you hand her with in reason with her muffs on. I keep a bunch of extra muffs just for the kids.

Great pictures and love to see the family involved. She has got that lucky face on so put her on some game. GL

My daughter is 10 and will shoot anything you hand her with in reason with her muffs on. I keep a bunch of extra muffs just for the kids. Ear protection is a definite. Here's a funny story from when those pics were taken: We did get on a doe that day. When we got in the the stand, we had deer on us almost immediately. I soon realized I left her earmuffs inside the truck. Well, I had a bunch of business cards in my pocket. I told her "Baby, I left your earmuffs in the car, we can't shoot. But, I have some paper in my pocket, Daddy can chew it up and stick it in your ear." I dip, and she refuses to even kiss me on the lips, but, my little angel looked at me and said "chew it, Dad". My little girl wanted me to chew up little pieces of paper and stuff them in her ear so she could get her deer. We just couldn't make the shot happen that day. But I was ever so proud, lol....
